I have not tried Windows 7. I have heard that it is better than Vista.

It is. I neglected my OS for years and stuck with XP, but my laptop had Vista. When I finally got a new PC upgrade it came with 7. It's a definite step up. Of course, Windows 8 is on the way now, so everybody had better just get ready to ignore it for a while until the kinks are worked out.

Making the jump from MS Word on XP to MS Office 2010 for Windows 7 was like getting a whole new word processor though. Ultimately, I thought they did improve it however, and I'm preferring MS Word 2010 to my ancient version.

I'm also clearly a little bit more late Twentieth Century than he is. I see nothing wrong with a woman bringing groceries in.

:D

hahahaha!

Well, it is nice being treated like a princess every once in a while

Morning folks. I know some of talk about what we are working on but I'm curious to hear what everyone is tackling and what they like about it.

I'm finishing the first draft of an m/m paranormal romance.

It's the story of an artist named Rhys who inherits several million, finds his life in a shambles (turns out his dad wasn't his dad), and decides to take a trans-Atlantic cruise back home to NYC, because 6 days to think is better than 10 hours.

On the cruise, he runs into a fae named Silas who hunts vampires. Turns out, there's also eight vampires on board. Silas is quite good at what he does, but there's a minor problem: He's a forest and field fae. On a boat. In the middle of the ocean.

And it turns out, Rhys is not... quite... human. Also, he apparently makes a nice vampire snack. Uh oh.

I love the dynamic between the MCs. They're both very strong characters in their own right. Young and brash meets old (old old) and jaded. It's been fun peeling back the layers on them.

And I'm having fun writing evil soulless vampires. Because I wanted evil, nonredeemable, soulless vampires, none of whom became that way by accident. No emo "Whyyyyy meee? Oh woeee I'm a bloooodsucker. Feel sorry for meeeee!" vampires. These are predators who love blood and pain and fear.

Morning, all!

Morning folks. I know some of talk about what we are working on but I'm curious to hear what everyone is tackling and what they like about it.

I like it for the jaded MC and her views on the world.

Your story sounds very cool. I'm trying to even out pov in a novel that was originally a novella. And the whole process may be driving me a wee bit batty. Or super crazy. Depending on the mood I'm in that second.

It's actually the one I originally wrote last year when I pestered you with all the vet office questions.

Mommy is having complications after surgery :( She got meds she has to take today and if they don't help, she needs to undergo another surgery tomorrow :e2cry:

In other news, Anyanka has ridiculous diarrhea. Good thing I was up anyway to look after mom.

*hugs!!!!*

I hope that everything goes well with the surgery and the doggy feels better soon. :(

Woah woah woah....food?

I was told jewlrey.

Lies.

LIES!!!

We want both! Or is that just me? >.>

I'm finishing the first draft of an m/m paranormal romance.

This sounds extremely cool. :D

Guys! Guys! My celeriac is sprouting! It takes 7-21 days but I have 3 at day 11! Two still have their cotyledons in the ground and the other is only slightly unfolding but still. Sucesss! Prepare for Stage 3: Profit! (nevermind that the growing period is a long 110 days.)

Well, she started out as a really god-moding RP character when I was 13. Over time I came up with her back story and wrote little snippets and beginning of stories, but nothing felt right. Then I marry Mr. Kricket, he asks me one simple question about the character and I'm all like "Why didn't I think of that?!" And BAM! I had a full grown novel idea that actually made sense.

This story would be a lot further along if I hadn't gotten infested with a tiny, yet cute, parasitic life form. ;)

Nice. Though I suggest you sell the parasite :D

Hello peoples!! Lots of random things because it's too hard to go through pages and multi-quote on this 3 Geezer iPhonz my brother gave me. I got the short end of that stick.

A) I love that there are other people here okay with aging because that's what we naturally do.

B) Ther is nothing sexier than a man doing some housework. Cooking a meal to feed all the little rugrats so I don't have to is a close second. Saying, "Why can't you do it?" when I ask you to wipe off the boy while I wash the highchair tray is a sure way to piss me off on Tuesday evening

C) My current neglected WIP is an urban fantasy set in the near future. Magic once flourished in the world but was banned. Now the only people allowed to use any at all are the law enforcement group. The one ability sought out is the ability to sniff out magic.

Jess is a straight-laced, no nonsense sniffer. Her ability is strong, her track record excellent and she's successfully hidden the fact that she can cast magic in addition to smelling it.

Her partner Tyler has hit on every woman in the building at least twice, but he and Jess have a special relationship and make a great team.

Now they've come up on a big case of powerful magic that nobody recognizes. Jess suspects some idiot summoned a demon, which supposedly do not exist, but lore says they require blood sacrifices to call and maintain, and as bodies pop up, it makes sense. The heat is on to catch the caster and the demon before they kill again, but Jess must also figure how they will accomplish the blood sacrifice to banish the demon.

Well, A) I'm pretty sure that's illegal and B) It's still inside me, so it's a little hard to get rid of yet.

:D

Details, smeetails.

TJ, that's a neat UF. See, I just need to read Cantinaite UF in order to enjoy that genre :)

I know some of talk about what we are working on but I'm curious to hear what everyone is tackling and what they like about it.

Looking through my nicely organised floppy discs. I know I have two ideas for AtCTs, one of which seems to be heading for the boil shortly. I can feel it working it's way up my brain. I love doing these, mainly because they're silly, and I don't really have to explain the characters to anyone and you can mash the entire set of writing rules to pulp in the process.

I have my Steady O'Brien saves the mermaids from the mad casino boss story. I've been a bit stuck on this as I'm beginning to think that she might just turn into a 17 year old and I really didn't want to do teenage angst or make her into Tiffany Aching. I really like the setting for the story though. I really feel like I know the place and the kind of people it has. I think I could do several stories set there.

I also have a dwarf story, it's your basic dwarf does a deal with the devil kind of thing. I'm still working out the antagonist / protagonist thing at the moment. Not sure which of them I want to win. I also think it needs more dirt and grime and fighting. It's like I have Disney dwarves in my head but I was hoping for Looney Tunes.

I liked Gina's comment earlier about her vampires. To be honest, those are the sort of vampires I want to read about.

Oh, and what happened to suspense in horror? I know, wrong forum, but humour me (or humor me, I don't mind). I am reading some Peter Straub. He's lacking suspense, real genuine 'oh my, I really need to find out what happens' suspense. I used to like books like that. Perhaps I should try the horror peeps.

ION, I picked up Harry Potter book 3 for 50p earlier. Full price £5.99. Result!

10 and June: *so much hugs re your moms* Sorry the hugs are late, busy day was busy and I've only just got here and caught up!

Morning folks. I know some of talk about what we are working on but I'm curious to hear what everyone is tackling and what they like about it.

I'm working mostly on one story, but have four others to fall back on if I get stuck. The main one is a story about a thief who gets turned into a werewolf by a family who want him to use his thieving skillz to rescue parents and sibling from a government lab of some sort. The second is a retelling of Snow White set in 13th century Scotland. The third is a regency era romance... A bit of fun with a smart redhead and an earl down on his luck. The fourth is a modern romance based on Beauty and the Beast crossed with archaeologists. And the last is a time-travel, star-crossed-lovers romance that takes place in the 1500s, the 1800s, and 'today'. Or is it the 17th century pirate romance? Wait, no, the Little Red Riding Hood story! Um. Hmm. Too many WIPs maybe?

I really like the urban fantasy (werewolf story) because I love my MC. He's smart and geeky and kind, but I love how being the wolf transforms HIM into someone he's not sure he likes. There's a lot of recycled lore and some stuff I made up or extrapolated from ancient Greek myth (the story of Lycaeon) and medieval monster myths (including one of the first werewolf stories, written [or maybe just translated] in the 1100s by a French woman, the story of /Bisclavret/). Um... Yeah. I'm quite nerdy. Sorry! Anyway, yeah... MC is fun and irreverent and sometimes too logical, but generally a good guy. Also, the New Jersey family is after him because he broke into one of their casinos. \o/

Actually, 10s and Psychomacologist have read the first chapter and a bit of the first draft (of which I am on Chapter 3. I always seem to get stuck on chapter 3 for some reason...)

Dire. Here, take this with you. I don't know what it is, but I found it by the lake. Downhill from the garden.

oops, I forgot what I like most about my story. I like my sexy half-fae lover innerest... based on Richard Armitage. But I love the weird world I have. There are elves and some fae and really wild combos of human/fae/elven blood called Shrae who are uh.... aggressively sexual. All the vampires (who are called wampyrs) are sleeping right now. Now. And they may well not be forever. (serious eyebrows) I have a full-blooded old school fairie who loves lipgloss. I also found a reason for all the people who go batshit crazy and start shooting people from clocktowers. And goths. I don't think the goths will like it....

C) My current neglected WIP is an urban fantasy set in the near future. Magic once flourished in the world but was banned. Now the only people allowed to use any at all are the law enforcement group. The one ability sought out is the ability to sniff out magic.

oooh... I hope your guys don't go looking for Sara and snatch her... she senses magic, thus her job looking for magical folks.

The Cantina has as much time as you need. If you'd like to collect yourself, please exit through those double doors. I hear it's sunny in the dong garden this time of day.

Wow, this week has been insane. And it's only going to get worse for the foreseeable future. I've pretty much passed out after getting home the past couple of nights.

As to WIPs... the story I'm currently working on goes something like this at the moment: When two teen superheroes out for revenge find themselves in over their heads, they look to one of the last remaining active superheroes of the last generation for help.

What exactly drives the rest of the story I'm not exactly sure of yet, unfortunately.

Me too. It's supposed to be bed-time, but my head is buzzing, or perhaps that's something I ate.

Anyway, put me down for another 200 words today, plus I wrote down some stuff from out of a writing book. Ooo, get me.
