Dean Wesley Smith has a neat concept for those doing self-published ebooks--a book card with cover, summary blurb, snippet, and a gift-card like piece with a code for downloading the ebook inside. And it doesn't sound expensive either. He mentioned the idea earlier, but I think this is the first time he actually did it and he posted results too. I find the whole concept innovative and well worth watching to see how it develops.

My publisher and others has been doing this for years.

It's a fairly standard way to provide access to e-arcs.

Stephen King's last three books were promo'd to reviewers this way. I remember getting a gift card this way for Gaiman's American Gods about six weeks before the print version was released.

That's cool. I wish I would have seen something like that. How did you get the gift card of Gaiman's? I mean, how did they select people to receive one?
