    Question Leon Jones Editing Services

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any information or had experience with Leon Jones, an editor and literary agent?

His website http://leonjones.net is not working, but he is marketing in classified ads, such as The Writer magazine, about emailing him the first 3 chapters for editing at no cost. If he accepts editing your novel, he will represent you as a literary agent.

He markets himself under Leon Jones Editing Services

From Google's cache of the Leon Jones site:

    America’s Best Writing Service

Who Should You Choose To Help You Become A Published Author?

First, you need an experienced editor with a proven track record. A seasoned “word smith” to help you tweak your manuscript. An experienced “literary mechanic” who will fine tune your book while remaining true to your voice. Chances are, your best friend or spouse will not give you an honest evaluation of your manuscript. That’s why it’s wise to seek council from someone who will guide you through the perplexing process of getting your book published.
Secondly, you need someone with “connections” in the publishing industry on your side. Someone who will find a publisher willing to take a chance on your book. Someone who knows what editors at publishing houses are looking for.
I'm not very impressed by his style, and I wouldn't want anyone with such a fondness for inverted commas edit my work.

I'd give this one a pass.

The Google-cache of his testimonials page: http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...+leonjones.net

All of the authors listed there that I can track down seem to have been published by Old Rugged Cross Press in 1993/1994. Old Rugged Cross Press doesn't seem to have published anything since 1995.

Editing and agenting are entirely different skill sets. Some people possess both (Absolute Write's own Barbara R., for instance; Betsy Lerner and Colleen Lindsay are two other examples that come to mind) but nobody with ethics practices both simultaneously for money.

Many agents offer their editorial perspective to signed clients. This is awesome, because it doesn't cost the client any money.

Professional freelance editors don't use the carrot of "if you keep paying me to work on this manuscript, I will eventually sell it to a publisher."

Anyone who writes "That’s why it’s wise to seek council from..." is no editor. That should be counsel.
