Regardless of how Musa ran their business, they're ending it right, in my opinion.

I agree with that assessment, Haggis. I received my rights reversions expediently, and I was able to pick up and go on without suffering from the potential loss of those five books. I feel for you in the AMP debacle. Whatever happened, at the very end at least the editorial staff at Musa did the right thing.

Well, we've always said their intentions were pure, right? It was just their execution we were worried about.

This is an opportunity. You have your rights back, you aren't in a protracted legal or public battle to do so, and you have completed, edited novels.

Yes, there are dozens of other ex-Musa authors out looking at reprint markets right now. But right now, other informed publishers are sympathetic toward those authors and looking to benefit from Musa's misfortunes. Join those authors soon, if you haven't already. Or start looking seriously at self-publishing.

Could be worse. You could be with Ellora's Cave.

Just remember to research research research publishers before you query them for reprints.

Please.

In many cases, you might be better off self-publishing.

Just for the halibut, I checked on Delphi what my reported sales for this year were. According to the statement, the close-out sale accounted for roughly 81% of the combined sales of both titles for the first (only?) quarter of 2015.

I looked at mine, too. Some sales must have trickled in from before the Clearance Sale. What is interesting to me is that I busted my ass yelling at people on Twitter about The Toast Bitches being 80 lousy cents, and it garnered ONE sale.

Well, I also mentioned it on my Facebook page, but I'm so reluctant to shout, "Look at me!" fearing to appear obnoxious. Hope this improves in the future with my next book. Or the next one.

Same here. After getting bombarded by many recent posts on Facebook complaining about getting bombarded by too many recent posts to BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK BUY MY BOOK, I'd rather not fall into the "obnoxious poster" category and figure once is fine.

(Jay Sherman wants you to buy his book.)

I got my final royalty statement from them this month but I didn't receive an email about their closure. I learned about their closure from this forum actually. Delphi isn't letting me log in to see the copyright return letter. Can I still self-publish my short story that they published?

I got an email from them in Feb saying they were closing, and some other stuff, including this--

1) Rights: All author rights will revert effective midnight, February 28, 2015. We will process individual rights reversion letter as quickly as possible through Delphi. Any author who wishes to market their book immediately is able to do so. We will also post a notification on our website which authors can reference when they submit their work elsewhere.

Samantha, we all got our rights reversion letters. Why don't you email Kelly and ask her to send you a copy of your letter? (I just checked, and I was still able to get in on Delphi, and my rights reversion letter is still there.) Yes, you can go ahead and self-publish your story. Most of us have either self-published our books or found publishers who take previously published books. Good luck!
