Seems strange to say that they're accepting mystery/suspense, paranormal, fantasy, and western while also saying that they won't accept stories with "violence... of any kind." That's a pretty broad sweep of negation.

It seems to me that they want romance with some suspense/adventure, not the other way around. But the guidelines are not 100% clear.

Interesting challenge to write a Western within those guidelines.

That ruled out every novel in my collection, including the Little House series (violence, racism), The Wind in the Willows (violence : the battle for Toad Hall) and even my Enid Blyton books (if slaps count as violence).

Is there such a thing as a non-violent western?!

I guess so, if there were no people in it, maybe like a travel guide.

But then you have that whole rattlesnake/mouse thing going on ...

I imagine they mean significant "on screen/page" violence. A lot of cozies etc have a plenty of violence occur, but not shown.

I got a western published with them. It had violence in it but not gratuitous. You know one of the characters got shot by the blood and I even threw in a wagon chase and crash.

They do, however, prefer the sweet side of romance.
