Are there any parallels? I mean, in the Christian faith, it has this great big flood which kills every human except Noah and his family. Is there something akin to the great big flood in other religions?
The flood story, and many other things related in the Christian Old Testament, are shared with both Judaism (from which they originated) and Islam (which has inherited them). In addition, some, like the flood story, show up in ancient non-religious literature, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh. Many archaeologists have suggested that the flood story has a factual origin, possibly in the breaching of the natural dam between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea Basin, some thousands of years ago.
Great natural catastrophes such as floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, have long been attributed to supernatural causes, and codified in many religious texts.
