...is that supposed to look like a giant hand?

'Cause if so, Good job!

Maps are fun. I have one for my world around somewhere, let me see if I can dig it up.

Ooh, that's really cool, Taxis.

p-dragon, I personally find (and have had mentors teach me) that it is a good idea to have a map for continuity purposes. If your story takes place in a real town, use that. If your story takes place in a fantasy or sci-fi world, or even a made-up town, drawing a map is pretty good.

Also, I find it ridiculously fun. I drew that map for the first time in Grade 7, and have been developing it for two years.

Thanks! Oddly, the first version of this map was also drawn in grade 7. But, uh, it's been in development a bit longer... let's leave it at that.

I use a map, both as a scale reference and to help me pin down what sort of location the events of my story take place in. Is there water near by? Where's the nearest mountain range? Which way does the sun rise? etc.

Same, it's very useful. It also helps tell me where my plots are going. There's a weird chain of mountains here, why are they there? Who lives there? And why does no one else live remotely close by?

Or, on one such memorable occasion: I've put a whole bunch of thought into developing the people who live on this island. But the protagonists never come anywhere close to it! Hm... how can I fix this?

Thankfully, this happened around the time when I had the, OH-SNAP-I-DON'T-ACTUALLY-HAVE-ENOUGH-PLOT revelation. The cross continental road trip is now a vital section of intrigue and character development.

That's okay, I am too. Right now, we're on scene opening mark 3.

All I'm writing is a short story. I know what I want to happen, I know how it's going to happen, I don't have writer's block for once...I'm just honest to god petrified to write this scene though. o_O; Not because it's even triggering for me, but because it's...

NOT HAPPY.

Yeah. I'm having trouble writing a scene because it's not rainbow sparkles. :tongue

This scene is quite the opposite, actually. It's traumatic for the character.

See, I'm just having trouble writing a scene because of faceless, nameless dissatisfaction. Like every scene, pretty much ever for me.
