Bella is a Mary Sue, though. I get your point. There were a lot of people talking about Mary Sues and how the term is slowly being adapted to mean "a female character the reviewer didn't like." I've got a whole list of recent blog posts if you want. I agree that it's overused. I agree that there's a lot of sexism in YA still. But I don't think Twilight is the best example.

Para had a good example, of a girl who was strong and forthright and badass...but everyone called her a slut who should die in a fire cause she was in a love triangle and could not make up her mind...

Mae Crawford in The Demon's Covenant. Between saving her little brother, fighting off evil magicians and teaching demons to be human, she was interested in three different boys. What a slut. :rolleyes:

3 guys? Well my character isnt that bad... only likes two guys at a time usually... well doesnt like... is with one and kind of has a cursh on the other... well she does end up engaged 3 seperate times, all before she is 21... hum... maybe she is kind of a slut.... well she doesnt sleep with any of them though... although she does seduce a guy to get her out of a jail cell then leaves him to die... Wow my MC is a slut and a B*&^%!

I've read the posts you're talking about, HR, but my personal definition of Mary Sue is this: The Mary Sue is not defined by her power, but by her lack of an even more powerful opponent.

No, I didn't come up with it.

My definition of a Mary Sue: a female character without flaws whom everyone loves without question. I've never used it in a book review. I prefer to actually talk about why I didn't like a character.

Also, I love Mae. (Please no Demons spoilers, I've only read Lexicon.)

And is not in a relationship with said people. And has sex with them all around the same time. And does it because it gives them status or power.

But I don't really use the word, anyway. Having sex with people for the sake of it isn't so bad. I probably wouldn't, but I know people who do.

ETA: I liked DL the best of the three. I felt like the second and third had POV issues so I couldn't enjoy it as much.
