I generally prefer third, but that's because of voice, and some stories are better told in a certain POV. Like, for example, TDL. If it hadn't been written in third person Nick wouldn't have been nearly as fascinating a character. The third person lets us see that Nick is not quite right without completely giving away the whole plot.

Why wouldn't it be so fascinating? You can do an unreliable narrator just the same in first person.

Gahhhh, my Sci-Fi is having an identity crisis. I was positive that it was adult, but now it seems like it might actually be more YA. I don't knoooooow...

I feel like that about a SNI that could easily go both ways, too. Damn you, indecisive novels. :tongue

I wrote 20k SO SURE that it was adult, and now I'm stalling because I'm really, really not sure. I feel like the situations and people are more adult (but then again it's sci-fi so maybe that doesn't matter as much) but the voice, prose, and themes are more YA.

Hi, guys. :)

I keep freaking out about some coursework. Is there a place on here to go to for author/agent interviews?

Haha that's definitely not gonna happen. I'll pick one or the other and try for that. It's just deciding which one.

Write for YA! Young people, unlike old people, are fun and hip and cool.

how many old people do you see wearing sunglasses!?

NONE

The staggeringly huge advances for YA novels would in no way influence my decision. Ahem.

I wouldn't have found it as interesting if it were in first person. I guess I can't explain it... I don't feel that the right balance would have been struck if we had been exposed to his stream of consciousness.

It may just be me, I don't know, but I feel like first person POV changes everything in a story, and can work REALLY well, but is hugely different.

Why I have no idea what you're implying artistic integrity I has it what.

So, YA it is, then!

That isn't that strange. I generally write contemporary in first, fantasy in third.

Well, nowadays I write almost everything in third. It's a voice thing. The voice of first person is totally different, IMO.

Harry Potter couldn't have been written in first person. The Hunger Games couldn't have been in third. It would have been a different story, to me at least.

I have a real thing about POV, though. I always know, without thinking about it, what POV (or POVs) a certain project will be written in.

I've got to wait for replys to a request for interviews before I can do a lot more.

Now, the question becomes should I switch my MC from a boy to a girl...
