One would hope it means they've sufficient starting capital.

ETA: Morgane is a voice-over artist and French tutor. Not immediately finding anything on Marc, it being a much more common name. As for the magazine itself, paying on acceptance is a good thing.

Hello,

We are paying for short stories out of our personal income to get started. Standard submissions have no reading fee and will always remain free. We hope to release monthly issues starting in October.

I wonder how they can afford $50.00 per story if they're new.

Every new paying market has to start by laying out upfront capital until revenues catch up.

I would be much more suspicious of a new market that said "We don't pay now, but will pay once we start getting revenue." That's the less professional option; what these folks are doing is the gold standard.

Read about this on San Francisco craigslist:

Fifty bucks isn't much money. It's highly commendable that they are paying, but hardly suspicious. Now, if they were startup paying New Yorker money, I might wonder where it's coming from, but fifty bucks for what might be a ten thousand word story? That's very, very little per word.

Okay.

I'm just used to e-zines paying much less, if at all.

I'm wondering if any one has had an experience with this publication yet? Any problems or kudos?

As of July '12:
We inform you with regret that we are shutting down In The Snake Magazine. We can no longer afford the time or the money to keep this publication going. We have put one year into this, and it has not earned the participation that we had hoped.

Last issue May '12.
