Hey, guys. Is there a way to make Word open my document where I left off typing, so I don't have to scroll through 100 pages to pick up where I left off?

Shift+F5 will get you to the last point edited.

Ctrl+End will take you to the end of the document.

It sounds to me--someone who's minimally proficient at Word--like you need to get reacquainted with some of its features. (But you're way ahead of the woman I knew who retyped her whole novel because she didn't know about copy and paste.)

I bet I still have my Word cheat-sheet, and I bet even though I made it a lot of years ago, the commands apply to newer versions. If you want a copy, I'd be glad to post it.

Maryn, who did not take naturally to Word

Shift +F5 works in every version of Word except Word 2007.

Thanks for this thread guys, I dudn't know about shift+f5.

Maryn, your cheat sheet could be great if you could find it and post.

We've already got a "cheat sheet" for both Word and Mac around here in one of the threads. I meant to make it a stickie and just never did (my fault).

Until the Cat finds and stickies the master cheat sheet, here's the one I used. Note that I made it when I had Word 7, then updated it for Word 2002 and later Word 2003. If you run a newer version, some of these may not apply.

On a lot of these, there's more than one way to execute the same command. As a leftie whose mouse is on the right, I tend to gravitate toward keyboard-based commands rather than mouse.

Hope some of it's useful. You'll find you memorize the ones you use often pretty quickly, but there are a few things I still look up.

Off with his head!

I've got a .pdf I used for teaching MSWord classes; I'll see if I can find it.

Awesome! Thanks for all the great responses, and especially the big list from Maryn. Very helpful!

Yes, I've never bothered to do much learning with Word beyond formatting the document, copy/paste, and save/undo. ;) That's been all I've needed so far.

You may already have the answer you want, but I'll still offer one of my techniques. I use the Bookmark tool to add a bookmark (or more than one as the case may be, say if I'm also editing a scene earlier in the story). Command: Insert--> Bookmark--> Add/ Go To

I also use Bookmarks to mark certain scenes where I may need to return to review the details, etc.

That never occurred to me, Clair. Thanks for the tip.
