Hi All:

I had a question on Puffin. Their submission requirements are below. If I have a MG kind of science and art primer on a green topic but it has a lot of text (and will have pictures), does this make it a picture book? I looked up their books on Amazon and it seems like their nature or art type books books are told from a fiction adventure perspective.

Am I wasting my time here to submit? Thanks for any info.

PUFFIN
  • A maximum of 30 pages for longer works (middle grade and YA manuscripts)
  • All novel submissions must include an SASE. Picture books are not accepted.

Having pictures in a book does not make it a picturebook. A picturebook is a very specific thing: those books for small kids who pretty much can't read yet, that are full of pictures with a story the adult reads to them

Your book, based on the description above, is simply middle-grade nonfiction. I bet the vast majority of middle-grade nonfiction books, especially those related to science or art (much less both!) have pictures in them.
