Finally heard back from Strange Horizons. It was an rejection, but a personal one at least. It's kind of funny, in that the editor was specific about what he liked but vague on what he didn't. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment, but I would like to know more about how I can fix my story rather than being told what already works.
Maybe they didn't understand what they didn't like, but for whatever reason, it didn't work for them. :e2shrug:
But at least you got some good news out of it!

And hugs Suzanne. Good luck with you revisions! :)

After a while of crickets two rejections today, but both with a silver lining. One editor felt that the story wasn't quite there yet, but asked to see more of my stuff. Another rejected the story because he felt it doesn't fit their 'zine well enough, but suggested that I re-submit it to their sister publication. Short of an acceptance, those are pretty good outcomes, I think :)

Those sound like two pretty good rejections, especially the second one.

Crickets for me today. Again. I honestly don't have a lot of work out on the slushes right now for whatever reason, so there are only a couple of places I expect to hear back from soon, but crickets still make me anxious.

Good Rs, Alex!

Now I'm trying to think who has a 'sister zine' :)

Crickets for me.

270 days at Escape Pod. (I submitted last November. In May, after repeated queries, they said my piece was in a folder they'd forgotten to look at, but they'd get on it. Three months later, I've been querying a couple times a week; haven't received the courtesy of a reply.)

Manuel: Why query more than once, maybe twice at most? At that point I would assume a lack of interest and definite lack of respect on their part, and move on.

Three rejections over the course of this week. I don't mind it so much, since it was crickets for a long time before that so I knew I was due. All of the stories have been sent back out, so fingers crossed that maybe one of them gets accepted this time.

JC: Hugs on the R from Pedestal. I've got one there but it's only been about a week so no word yet.

I must admit, I turned a little green last week when I spotted a 1 day acceptance at Pedestal. (And again today when there was a 30 day acceptance at TNY.) Ah, well. That will be me some day. ;)

In the meantime, crickets. Seven pieces out at the moment; a few at the beginning of the slush curve, several in the mid-range, one (we all know which one that is) is an outlier.

Crickets here as well. Six pieces out, ranging from 4 to 462 days.

We need a little cricket smiley-thing.

How do you make those animated GIF's?

I used GIMP (a free Photoshop clone.) Each frame of the gif is a layer, and when I saved the file I chose to export it as animated instead of flattening all the layers together.
