Wow! I've got a double braggage day!

Readerotica is publishing "Renovation" in Volume 4. Not necessarily the snazziest publication credit but they pay good money, on acceptance. :)

Aggy, feeling a little bit like this :snoopy:

Thanks :)

And thanks to you and Brenda for commenting! Much appreciated.

I've spent the whole day cleaning the kitchen. I'm knackered, and starving. I want mushrooms on toast, but I don't want to mess up the kitchen...

Don't think I've ever eaten a mushroom sandwich. Gotta try that sometime :)

I enjoyed your EDF story this morning as well. Read it on the cell phone but now that I'm on a PC I'll go and comment :)

Today's sort-of braggage is that I'll get to do a live reading from my story "The Dragon Ships of Tycho" at the "Galactic Creatures" anthology launch party at BaltiCon.

I'm mortified of reading aloud because I'm so bad at it. I'll spend some time practicing this week, and reading up on some tips. Hope I don't embarrass myself at the reading.

This morning I wrote a blog entry about my upcoming BaltiCon appearance:

Congrats on the opportunity to do a live reading, Alex! That's awesome and I know you'll do great. :snoopy:

And congrats on the Trapeze story, Michael. It brought a smile to my face :)

I have a bit of braggage today. I sold "Carapace" to Ray Gun Revival. It should appear on the site next month or the month after. Woo hoo!

Congrats on your story, Michael!

Alex! How exciting :) Good luck. Personally, I'd shit myself if I had to do anything like that, but I'm sure you're far braver than me.

Brenda! Yay!!!

You haz sheepz :D

It's awesome reading the Duotrope weekly digest and seeing people you know in the 'acceptances' list. Congrats everyone!

I'm mortified of reading aloud because I'm so bad at it. I'll spend some time practicing this week, and reading up on some tips. Hope I don't embarrass myself at the reading.

A few tips, if you don't mind some unsolicited advice:
1. make sure you have water available; if it's not provided, bring some with you. No one will mind you pausing for a sip.
2. turn your cellphone off, or don't answer it. I was at a panel with Big Name Author doing a reading several years back and mid-reading his phone rang and he proceeded to have a 10min conversation with whoever it was about where they were going to get dinner. It was funny, but really not something someone with less cred than this guy was going to get away with.
3. In general, 4000 words takes about 25 minutes, but time yourself so you know. If it's a group reading and you're not first, and there's no moderator, expect the first person to run into your time. If you are first, try not to do that. :)
4. If you're going to read a partial work instead of a whole work, pick a part of it where you don't have to keep stopping to explain what's happening to the audience. And, yeesh, don't skip around awkwardly between passages with lots of pausing and half-sentences and "wait, just let me find this..." moments.

And however it goes, you'll do fine. :)
