In order for that to happen, wouldn't the subject of the thread first have to be extremely still and hang somewhere unobtrusively from a tree branch or other out-of-the-way place while wrapped in a cocoon for a period of time sufficiently long as to produce the desired result of a butterfly?
What if the winter wind blows the subject of the thread, while wrapped in a cocoon, off the tree branch or other out-of-the-way place, and it falls to the ground and is mistaken for a nut and eaten by a squirrel?
