    Crossroad Press

    Any info on Crossroad Press?
    http://crossroadpress.com/

It looks like they've picked up a few of the Leisure authors. It looks to be an e-book company specializing in speculative fiction, with a slant heavily towards Horror.

Leisure was an imprint of Dorchester, which recently switched to ebook-only.

    Crossroad Press

I'd be happy to answer any and all questions about Crossroad Press. It all started when I wanted to get some of my own books out as eBooks, and audiobooks. I turned out to be pretty good at it, and a couple of friends asked if I could do it for them as well. I figured out how to do it and keep most of the money in the hands of the authors, including scanning and recreating documents from out of print paperbacks and hard covers...it grew, and here we are. We are way over 100 titles, with new ones every day, and more than 30 unabridge audiobooks available all over...it's fun, and it's growing.

You can reach me anytime at publisher@crossroadpress.com ... the link to the store is below. Use the coupon FIRSTBOOK and you'll save 20 percent on your first order if you visit.

Now...all I have to figure out is what this forum is all about, and how to contribute something useful. I've been writing for...a long time.

Nice, easy to navigate store. Good Alexa rankings.

Audiobook by Michael Moorcock! Must save up for this.

I wasn't aware that anything written by Fritz Leiber, Robert Bloch or Harry Harrison were in the public domain. I know Fritz Leiber's son has taken over his estate last I heard. Also, he died in 1992 and copyright extends to life plus 70 years. Bloch hasn't been dead all that long either (1994) and Harry Harrison is still alive.

Michael, there is a very small amount of their work available that was printed first in old pulp magazines and never renewed. To my knowledge, these are the only ones of their books available in such a manner...there are enough Philip K. Dick stories for an antho, but, in the end the Public Domain stuff has proven more work than it was really worth, because we won't just slap it up like most of the other publishers...we format like it was a new book..

I don't have anything available that would suit your company. I write erotic romances these days, most of it gay.

    Michael,

Genre isn't a factor. The Keeper - one of the audiobooks we did under our Perfect Voices program, is a historical gay romance. Romance of any sort is a direction we're only starting to go - but that's true of a lot of genres. I'm a horror / sci-fi / fantasy writer, so I started there because it's where I have the deepest roots and the most contacts.

    Do you do illustrated nonfiction?
What do you pay in royalties?
Are they for sale only on your website or do you have them on amazon, barnes and noble, and other online booksellers as well?

    Thanks for answering

Tina...our eBook deal is 80 percent to the author of every penny made. We distribute through Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, our own sites, Overdrive.com (who distribute to libraries and school systems) and we just signed with EBSCO - an international library distributor, to add a bit more. I have said it before, and I'll stand behind it...I don't think there is a more author-centric ePublisher in the business with the reach we've developed in a very short time...

It's actually reached the frantically crazy stage a lot more quickly than I would have expected.

Thank you for answering, and I did see a nonfiction category listed after I asked that question.
Are illustrated texts a problem for you or can you accept graphic rich content?

    Sorry..I got carried away.

We can includ graphics, but the formatting is more difficult, and how they perform on various eReaders is always in question. Also, they tend to make the files much larger, which can cause files too big for some vendors. I wouldn't be opposed to looking at it...

And yes, non-fiction, fiction, westerns, fantasy, sf, urban fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, romance, we're trying for it all.

Do you have a page detailing what you're looking for in submissions? I couldn't find one anywhere on the site.

No, because honestly, if we opened to submissions, we'd close down. We have a LOT of books in the works, and a lot of authors whose entire catalogs we're currently doing. What usually happens is people just contact me...we work it out or we don't, but we aren't "officially" open to submissions...I'd have to have a much bigger staff for that because as an author, the one thing I HATE is being made to wait, and wait and promised that my work will get looked at by people who honestly don't have time and should have said so in the first place...I won't be one of those people.

I tried to head over to the site but it's not wanting to open. When I went around it and headed to something called Stargate there was no submissions page. Help?
Yes, I'm a writer. No, I don't want to write your memoir for you.

URL is redirecting to macabreink.com/cpmain/, which is David's base site, but is also kicking up malware/hacked warnings. I'd wait a couple weeks for him to get things straightened out.

    Updating link: http://macabreink.com/

Site issues are resolved, and were likely construction dust kicked up by dividing their catalog into imprints:

Macabre Ink for horror and dark fantasy, Gordian Knot Books for Mysteries and Thrillers, Rendezvous Press for Romance, Mystique Press for Science Fiction and Fantasy, Dimension W for Westerns and Weird Westerns, Panta Rei Press for New age and Metaphysical titles, and for younger readers Otherside Press for Teen and YA titles, Wonderstruck Books for Middle Grade Readers and K-Bug Books for first readers and children’s picture books.
