AboutFace Media (formerly Passionate Writer Publishing)

    Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this publishing company? I submitted a partial and they want more. BUT, the email left me with an uncomfortable feeling.

    The Digital World

Passionate Writer Publishing, or PWP, stays on the cutting edge of the book industry, offering every book in several e-book formats, in addition to traditional print. All books that carry the PWP label are also available for sale at all major internet retailers.

    Your Independence

Passionate writers looking for greater control over their book's fate find it in PWP Self Publishing. We offer editing, design, and marketing consulting to ensure that your self-published work meets the same quality standards as any other book bearing the company label.
e/POD house that also offers "self-publishing" services. With no distribution, you can guess which is their larger revenue stream.

    Here's the website:

I didn't see anything that would make me think they are legitimate. No information about who they are and what experience they have in publishing books. They mention distribution without going into detail about their distribution.

The fact they offer self-publishing packages is a big red flag. That alone is enough to skip them.

The fact that they offer graphical design services gives the impression that they are probably a one or two person shop that can't sustain themselves though publishing.

Yog's law is that money should flow to the author. The issue with any company offering services like this is whether you think you're going to make back enough in sales to offset the amount you've paid up front and by and large, most people don't.

Most of the website is geared towards selling services. If they are offering commercial publishing terms (i.e. where they pay you for your manuscript) then it's not clear from the website.

Personally, I'd move on. There are plenty of other publishers out there and to be honest, if you want to self publish then you're usually better going with an outfit like Lulu.

One of the easiest things to look for is whether the main page is trying to sell books (which is a good sign) or trying to sell itself to authors (which is a bad thing).

Thanks for all the feedback. I agree with you all. It just didn't feel right, and you all confirmed my thoughts.

Round my neck of the fanfic woods (a few years back) it always stood for 'Porn Without Plot'. I do wonder if this was at the back of their minds when they named the business.
