I feel your pain. I used to have perfect vision in my 20s and 30s. Now I can't have anything too close to my face or else it disappears into a sea of blurriness. *old- age high five*

*high fives back* and tries not to pull anything in the process. :e2beat:

LOL

Good luck, justbishop. Have you considered looking into contests? Perhaps your novella could find a home in an anthology.

Dorothy, it is wonderful to hear that it was a hard month of revisions, but you loved it. Isn't that the key to happiness? Love what you do. I hope your books sell so well that you can retire and write some more.

I am working on edits and getting close to the final chapters. I always rush through these last chapters. The book is in pretty good shape. So good, I can't believe I wrote it. LOL.

Thank you! YES! That's the dream!

Good luck with the home stretch. Can't wait to read it.

Yeah, an anthology might be where I try next, if I can't ferret out more houses to sub it to as a standalone. I'm not especially keen on the idea, though, and still may consider self-publishing instead.

Congrats on finishing your revisions, Dorothy!

Good luck with yours JK! And good luck with your queries JB!

I'm in the final stretch with the first draft of my WIP. All I want to do is get it finished, but stupid day job is getting in the way.

Gah! My eyes! They're bleeding!

Okay. Whew.

I just found out my daughter's not the sweet, naive, li'l innocent girl she once was. I stupidly blundered into her room this morning without knocking (I know, right?) and upon her laptop screen was MALE AND FEMALE GENITALIA GETTING FRIENDLY!

Where are the forks? I need a good eye-gouging.

Truthfully, I understand. She's a healthy young gal with natural sexual urges. Nothing wrong with that. But, for God's sakes, why did I have to see it? Wouldn't this be better found out, you know, by her mom or something? Someone better prepared to handle it than an idiotic clueless old guy?

My response? Pretended I never saw it. What ELSE could I do?

Sorry to derail. But with the relative anonymity of the board, I HAD to unleash on you guys. Feel my pain. With those mothers of youngsters, you've got a world of weirdness ahead of you.

Yikes!

Yeah, I'd pretend I didn't see it too. And I'm the mom. 0.o

Wait...like, she was watching porn? How old is she?

Honestly, anything over about 17 and I would continue with the "ignorance is bliss" tactic, aside from making sure that she has been educated on safety.

Of course, take that with a grain of salt, from the first time Mom of a 3 y/o, lol!

Educated fully on safety, Bishop (as awkward as that was).

Actually, the daughter just left her teens a couple days ago. 20 now. And NOW she chooses to be a "wild child." Why, I remember when...

Sorry, senility set in.

I wish I could write about the issues she faces. It would make for some heart-rending tales. But I can't--won't--do that to her. She has a hard time at life and turning that into reading fodder for the masses (I WISH I had masses) would be a betrayal to her.

She's already pissed at me for writing about her love life in my YA books.

Oh yeah, I would definitely be ignoring it at this point, then...except maybe to mention to her that she might want to close browser windows and stuff on her laptop from now on, just to save her any future embarrassment, KWIM?

Oh. I wouldn't even know how to approach that problem. Oy.

I'm 14k into a the "new" project and heading back to the Adirondacks at the end of this week. I've always written this particular story well (meaning, with ease) up there because it's set somewhere similar. Hoping to return home on Sunday with a finished first draft.

I've probably jinxed myself...

Cheering you all on!
I have a headache, so I'm not going to work on anything today. I think I'll go read in bed. Or sleep in bed might be what really happens.

Feel better, Sage! Yes, give your brain a break for the night. It will reward you later! ;)

By the way, I'm going on vacation the end of next week, and I'm buying LOVE SUCKS for my Kindle as my holiday read. :D

Morning guys and gals!

Sage, hope you are feeling better today :)

Dot, have fun on your vacay next week. You deserve it!

Taking the girls to the library and then to a friend's house about 45 min away. Won't be back until after 5pm. So, another busy, exhausting day.

Have a great day all!

WB Lisa :)

Hope you got a good night's sleep and are feeling better, Sage!

I just finished looking through 50 (yes, FIFTY) pages of Google results for "young adult, novella, submissions" for suitable publishers to query, and only found one that piqued my interest. Anyone heard of Really Blue Books out of Australia?

How's everyone doing today? Sounds like you've all been busy. I just got back from vacation today  I wanna go back!

Periwinkle, where in NE are you from? I love Cambridge/Boston in particular, and visited Verm0nt this past May (also loved it).
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, Smiley. I live about 15 miles outside Boston. I love Cambridge (I used to visit my grandma there when I was a kid), particularly Harvard Square. Where in NE are you from?

Now that I'm back, I'm going to reread the critiques of an exerpt I posted in SYW, and figure out how to rewrite the beginning of my WIP.

Try to stay cool today! :Sun:

Got 3500 words written today and given that I won't have any time to write over the next 24hrs, I'm pretty happy with that. Back off to the Adirondacks tomorrow!

Between now and 11am when I head north, I still have to clean my house for my petsitter, set up my house for the petsitter, pack, do laundry (though I guess before packing), drop off one of my cats at the vet for boarding since he tries to die everytime I go on vacation, and do a job interview. I'm going to be terribly sleep deprived for my drive :(
