A step closer for a cure for HIV perhaps?

http://www.popsci.com/science/artic...tally-cured-patients-hiv-stem-cell-transplant

A huge story with implications that aren’t all immediately clear is emerging in Berlin this week: doctors treating an HIV-infected with leukemia believe they have, in a roundabout way, cured his HIV infection via a stem cell transplant containing cells that happened to be impervious to HIV infection. And while the story by no means indicates that a cure for HIV has been discovered, the unexpected finding certainly opens the door to further review and great optimism in a frustrating battle that has now spanned several decades.

If this is true, the implications could be staggering. Imagine if a cure can be found within our lifetime.

This would be great of course. But I still ain't buying it.

I'm resigned to the fact that I will be dead before they cure anything.

But damn would I love to be able to bang chicks without worrying about god damn HIV anymore.

This has been around my entire sexual life.

You older folks had it lucky.

Worried about some things of course, but nothing that would kill you.

I want that before I die. And not when I'm 84 and trying to hook up in the old age home.

Now, while I still have some mojo left.

I will keep close watch on this development.

Thank you.

It's gonna be a wild decade, the decade they solve this one. ;)

Wow, here I was thinking of all of the people out there that have HIV, that live with it everyday and how wonderful it would be for them to no longer have that hanging over their heads. I thought about children infected since birth, who have grown up knowing no other reality. I imagined a world in which at least one of the great plagues might be extinguished.

Billy, you thought about hooking up without a condom.

Huh? Alrighty then.

Lol.

Thats not true. I thought of them too. I covered that in the first line.

" this would be great of course."

Then it was time to move on to my own personal desires for HIV free sex.

Everybody wins.

Thank you.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

I needed this. I just got back from a class where 50% of the final presentations were about aliens building the great pyramids.

So is the Mona Lisa, but a lot of people still seem to be interested in that.

:)

Because she's in context, Billy, not some nebulous "screw you because you're outside the appallingly inconsiderate if you don't get us, that's because we're just so fucking great" club. . . .

Interesting that they do not mention the source of the stem cells. Does anyone know if they are adult or embryo based?

Check it out!

Oops! Dang it. I scanned through the threads first to make sure and I apparently missed that one.

Sorry for the redundant thread!
