and lastly a song called Marie Celeste by someone whose name I can't even remember and didn't chart and whose lyrics don't appear in Google. Can't get much more obscure than that.

Any more info? Year, style of music, what have you?

I've got the same problem with a song called, I think, Victoria, by a band named, possibly, England. I saw the video on Saturday Superstore around, maybe, 1982. And it must have had something since I still remember it!

Now, I know a band called England - fine prog rock outfit. But it's not them.

Anybody?

I'm away to listen to some of the other suggestions now.

Oh, what about some Lotus Eaters. This is damned fine.

Around 1980, I think, and kind of haunting. It was played on Radio One a few times. The singer, maybe, was called John Van Thingy or Christopher Van Whatsisface. The chorus went

Marie Celeste
I'm in distress
I'm in a force nine gale
Won't you trim my sail?
Can you hear the sirens wail?

For many years I had a similar problem with an unknown song that went

The world is full of little people like you
They have to read a book to learn what to do

Then t'internet came along and brought back Graham Parker's Temporary Beauty in all its caustic glory. In those days, you could look like a bookie on Dagenham Dog Track and still have a recording career. Probably why music is so shite now.
