Just became real tonight. Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, who was narrowly defeated by TeaParty- and Sarah Palin-endorsed hard-core social conservative newcomer Joe Miller in the Republican Primary, has tonight announced she will run a write-in campaign for the Senate Seat.

This is a real soap opera. First, the Republican Primary was a very close divide, and there are a lot of establishment Republicans up here who both detest Palin and fear Miller. The Murkowski name has long tendrils trailing behind it. And the contest will be personal and visceral, not so much between Murkowski and Miller as between Murkowski and Palin. They effing HATE each other, on a level that has almost nothing to do with political views.

This is going to be real fun.

The Democratic candidate, Scott McAdams, is also a complete unknown in the state, and one-on-one against Miller, would have the chance of winning that the Titanic has of refloating. But in a split three-way, it gets interesting. There were a bunch of well-known state Democrats who showed up at the Murkowski news conference tonight to endorse Murkowski.

Stay tuned. I'm going to watch the polls real close the next couple of weeks. This will make national news, with regularity. Watch for major vitriol and catfighting.
