This contest was already closed when I was asked about it-- it ran for the first time this year, I guess it remains to be seen if it will go again. The magazine they have sponsoring is legit, but here is the rest of what I wrote to the person whose young niece had entered:
"well, the contest looks legit in itself. Was there a fee? That would be normal, to provide the prize money and to cover administrative costs. I see they had Canadian youth magazine YouThink as a sponsor this year.
In a contest, the entrants do not usually hear back, there are just too many entries-- only the winners get contacted.
But it took a bit of sleuthing to find the 'published author' who judged the contest. His book is *self* published through PublishAmerica, a notorious 'manuscript mill'. Not a legit publisher, but a 'vanity' publisher.
I would not be surprised if the young people who entered this contest get spam from Publish America offering to publish their books...and of course the writers will be the ones to PAY to have their books published. If so, have NOTHING to do with them."
Has anyone else heard anything about this contest or anything like it?
