I received a request from "Jeffrey" at JLA Literary Agency, for my full manuscript. While this is exciting, I cannot find anything on this agency. His full name is Jeffrey O'Bomeghie. Anyone have any dealings with him? Is he legit? Should I give it a whirl?

JLA Agency: Charges fee. Not recommended. A literary agency. Contact at:
That is what I found on Predators and Editors. I would give them a pass.

Hi, redisme, and welcome to AW.

It's usually a good idea to research agencies before submitting to them because it can save you a lot of heartache in the long run.

As has been said on the other thread here, JLA is listed as not recommended on P&E on the basis that it charges fees and having done a Google search I can't find anything about them that would either change that view or offer sales credentials as an agency.

There is no such thing as a stealth agent and it's better to have no agent at all than to have a bad agent.

Incidentally - this shouldn't be confused with JLA, a London agency that specialises in after dinner speakers and performers and has a v. impressive stable of clients.

Or with the Justice League of America, although I bet Superman would make a great literary agent.

Thanks for the advise. Since I'm very new at this "author" thing, I sent multiple queries last weekend hoping to hear back from a few. At that time, I thought I could do some research and pick the one that was right for me. Having heard back from JLA Literary Agency, (along with a couple others) I tried to go the research route but can't seem to find anything concrete. The one website said NO REPLY and SASE not returned. Another said they charge fees but Jeffrey's email made no mention of that. Just seems odd they don't have a website.

Thank you! It is very exciting. I've been working on it a long time and I hope all my hard work pays off. It's a suspense/mystery novel.

Heh! Although I don't know - the problem with Superman is that he'll always be taking off somewhere to rescue someone and if I've got an agent then I want him fighting for me at all times.

redisme - best thing I can advise is that you do the research for suspense/mystery agent specialists before you send out any further submissions. Publishers Marketplace and agentquery are the best places to check and I'd target agents who represent authors with work similar to mine first and then work my way down the list.

It's always better to start off targeting the 'big boys' who represent authors you admire or are trying to stable yourself with and then go down.

Although there're questions about this agency going back to '98, this thread is the last mention of them. Unless someone's had recent contact, I'm calling inactive.
