Anyone have any timing updates? I EQ on July 13th, and still no reply. Is anyone here represented by this place?

Hi Twiharder,

I EQ'd Jim McCarthy on July 10 and I still haven't heard back. I might re-query him, but I've never re-queried anyone, so I'm not quite sure how to phrase the letter. Do I mention it's a re-query? Is it bad to start a query on a negative note ("You never replied to my first query, so I'm trying again")?

I'm with DGLM. Initially queried Miriam, she requested the full four hours later, got back to me in one week to say she liked it and could she share it with Jane. Jane read it and offered rep a further week later.

That was last month. My first book went out on submission this week.

How exciting. Best of luck!

Great news! I hope you have a lot of success. What genre do you write?

Thanks so much MaraudingDon & Profen4!

I'm at that half excited/half terrified point. Or maybe it's 30/70, lol. I write Regency-set historical romance.

Thanks StellaArgentum. :)

All the best to everyone querying/waiting on fulls or partials. I know it's flippin' hard but keep writing while you wait and remember it's voice that differentiates you and persistance that gets you over the line.

(Oh yeah, and try and be stronger than me when it comes to refreshing email. Every 3.5 seconds eventually makes the computer kinda stroppy - aim for 10 at least!) :)

Michael Bourret

Hey guys!
Quick question for your: I have queried Michael Bourret in the past, for another book, and he replied the same day passing on it.
I queried him for a new book, a year later, and this was on September 17th, but I haven't received a reply. Since the last time he immediately replied he was passing on it, I am not sure if I should consider this a rejection or if it's still in the pile, for evaluation. What do you guys think?

not sure if it's any help, but I know one very small press who got a sub from these folks and was a little surprised because they primarily deal with film related non-fic and he book was general fiction. They were also pretty surprised to be getting a sub from an agent at all, as they are very very small and quite niche.

DGLM is one of the most respected (and successful) agencies out there. They're number 1 on my to query list :). They represent all genres from picture books to non-fiction. e.g. I know they rep President Obama (obviously non-fiction), and they rep The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (YA genre fiction).

Good luck!

Hi All. I queried Abby Reilly beginning October. Popped on to the D&G website yesterday to double check response time and she is no longer listed in their "who we are and what we're looking for" page.
Does anyone know if she's still with them?

Anyone? There isn't a general email for them (that I can see) to ask them.

I'm fairly certain they are a "re-query if you don't hear back" agency but I can't recall. I queried Abby Reilly in June, didn't receive a response, and so re-sent my query in Sept. I did get a response that time. So maybe resend it if you haven't heard?

OK - I blew it on a query

I just sent off a query to an agent at Dystel. Unfortunately I got mixed up with another agency's guidelines. They didn't want an attachment and asked for only 1 chapter. I sent in two chapters as attachment. So, do I mentally write this agent off? I can query another agent at Dystel at later date.

merlot, it might have gone directly into their spam filter because of the attachment. I'm going to ask a Super to port this into the existing Dystel & Goderich thread in BR&BC.

Everyone move your tray tables to the upright and locked position and fasten your seat belts please. We may experience turbulence from the meteor shower.

I'd resend without the attachment and indicate that it's a re-query and say you mistakenly attached rather than pasted the chapters.

Good luck.

Jim McCarthy's Twitter Was Hacked

So if you get a Twitter DM from him with a link to look at some picture do not open it. It's a phishing scam.

Has anyone tried Yassine Belakacemi at Dystel? He's new and young.

This may have been answered already (although I couldn't find a definitive answer). I just read this on the D & G website: Please be sure to query only one agent at this agency. We will not review queries sent to more than one of us. Would you take that to mean a no from one agent is a no from all? Or that you should only submit to one agent at a time?
