I must say that the electronic submission is simultaneously awesome and evil. It actually displays where you are in line. This has made me extremely obsessive compulsive about checking my place in line.

I am now experiencing this. I don't normally write horror, and that probably doesn't bode well for me with Clarkesworld, but I thought what the heck...

Funny I do the something. I'm at 29 now for a contemporary horror/fantasy story. As for the pornography story...it was just pornography IMO.

Has anyone had any luck submitting fantasy to them? The latest ones seem to be all SciFi, to me.

They publish fantasy and science fiction, so give it a go. Chances are you'll get rejected because they have a very low acceptance rate, but it won't be because you submitted a fantasy story.

@Clarkesworld just tweeted today:

Aside from stories currently in the hands of slush readers, there is nothing in the Clarkesworld slush pile. :(

I stopped sending work to them a couple of years ago, because I just don't match their style.

It seems to me that they prefer well-established authors. I'll keep submitting to them when appropriate, but it's something to keep in mind.

Bolding mine since this may not in fact be true, just my personal thoughts at the moment.

Oh, now that is evil.

*runs to finish story to have something to send them*

Clarkesworld is awesome, and I'd cut off my right arm to get something in there. I got close once, I think - held for two weeks and a personal rejection, but ultimately no dice. Oh well, the story sold to another good market, but Clarkesworld is still on my publishing bucket list.

Totally agree, which is why I'll always submit to them.
