太好! 怎么样?

That first sentence above is missing the le particle, but it's all Babelfish's fault.

我在大学学习了中文二年。Not sure of the grammar here. Rusty!

You'd want to say, 我在大学学过二年的中文, or 我在大学学中文学了二年了.

Babelfish and Google Translate do terrible things to Chinese. Haha.

If you like, I'd be happy to help with anyone's Chinese. Been in Beijing for four years and counting.

Machine translators do horrible things to any language.

Well, to be fair, Google's is getting better, 'cause it's constantly being fed by human translation and revision. A lot of companies with straightforward content and software UI strings actually benefit quite a bit from machine translation, which of course needs to be followed by human review.

Yes, that looks exactly like what I couldn't figure out was wrong with that Babelfish translation! Thanks, not_HarryS. I like this one: 我在大学学过二年的中文.

My last class was ten years ago. No wonder I've lost my literacy! I'm hoping to pick up a class in the fall.

Ah! I just realized that there's a mistake in that sentence, too! >_<

I wasn't being careful. In numbers under ten (for the most part), two is 两 (liang), not 二 (er).

So the sentence should read: 我在大学学过两年的中文。

Oops :)
