Hey, I saw the funnest thing at wally world today. They're called Nibbles and Scribbles, and they're paperback books that are tear out placemats, with all kinds of coloring pics, games, etc. on them.

Of course, they were a little high for me at 8 bucks a pop, but I guess I could copy the pages and let the kiddos use them more than once.

Just sharing.

That is funny! The fancier bookstores here in LA sell these placemats that you can write on and wash off, and they have all different educational ones, like the states, and letters and numbers and whatnot.

Now that's cool. Kids are spoiled now days. Even when I was a child, my mom had to make the stuff to decorate my room in a disney theme from coloring books, box cutouts, and curtains from a set of flat sheets...

Now they all come pre-packaged in little kits that are all organized...

Hey, you guys, I have the most adorable little class EVER! We're talking kids who actually have self-control and a desire to learn!!! Not to mention hot pink cowboy boots and Hello Kitty juice bottles.

Looks like it's gonna be a good year!

I want pink cowboy boots and Hello Kitty juice bottles! Ask your kiddos where they do their shopping. ;)
Glad it's going well, Ms. Judy!

By the way, Kitty, have you started your new job? If you've posted about it and I've missed it, I'm sorry. I've been drowning in work lately, so haven't been around as much as I'd like.

However, I did finally book my flight for my Labor Day vacation. :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump:

Not yet! Classes here don't start til September 6. I go on Aug 29th for a staff meeting thingy, and meet my two kiddos, and talk to the resource specialist. I went in yesterday to drop stuff off, and it was only 30 minutes door to door on my bike, which is excellent! Still tweaking my bike to get everything adjusted just right and make the tires more bombproof. Flat tires are unstylish. And I still need to find the perfect LUNCHBOX!!!

My son (age 13) had a horrible time finding a lunchbox as well. He liked the "organ transplant cooler" one that Thinkgeek had, but it was backordered. Finally, he settled on "The Man's lunchbox" we found on Amazon. lol Personally, I liked the Doctor Who one...

Just looked up The Man lunch box. It doesn't look like the lunch boxes I remember. Why is that? :Jump:

Maybe men were different when we were kids???

I'm thinking the "manly" lunch box back then was a gray metal lunch box with a lid that had room for a huge thermos. The young'n likes todays "The Man" lunch box because it's the size of a book and fits in his backpack easily. Well, he also likes the name as well. :)

The Man lunch box isn't a box at all. It's made out of fabric, not metal. I had a Hot Wheels lunch box. The thermos was super stinky. :Jump:

(I just posted an ode to Hot Wheels on my blog. Link in sig!)

True...it's more a "Metrosexual man's zippered nylon pouch with super shiny stuff inside." "Man's Lunch Box" looks better on the label.

And...ya know...that thermos wouldn't have stunk as bad if you washed it once in a while.... :) :)

Cool hot wheels video! I want to go to there.

Speaking of stinky lunch things, one more day left to submit a kidlit contest entry! You all will have a head start reading them because I'm taking my boys to Cedar Point this weekend and won't be back until Tuesday. :Jump::Jump::Jump::Jump:

Wish Me Luck, Please?

I finally got things together and sent off another PB ms. and two chapters of a YA novel to the agent who asked for them. I'm so nervous and worried she won't like them.

So please, if you have a minute, wish me luck, or say a prayer, or cross your (insert various body parts), or whatever you do to help me win her over.

I'm soooo nervous my weekend is going to be wrecked!

Anyway, thanks so much to all of you. And don't forget to get those contest entries in! You can't win if you don't play.

Good luck sissybaby!

It's funny that you're all talking about stinky lunch things. My daughter went to a daycamp back in July. This morning I was looking for her backpack because we're going away next week. When I found it, I realized I hadn't taken out her lunch bag on the last day. There was a whole apple inside...in completely perfect condition. Not a bit rotted. For some reason, I am so glad she didn't eat that apple :)

Judy, glad your class looks promising! Me... not so much. My class moved to a new school and none of the kids' familiar TAs were transferred with us. Some of the new ones have attitude with a capital A. It's been a nightmare of a week.

Sissybaby, I'm crossing my toes for you. :)

Thank you, Everyone! It's been a crazy week, and I hope I didn't send off something with glaring problems.

Ruth - sorry to hear that. I hope things will settle down soon. They can make it so hard to kids. They need to experience new things, but they also need the comfort of familiarity.
