JoAnnM

Mary is older than him
Mary is older than he

Which is correct?

The first is commonly used, but I just saw the second used by someone who generally knows her stuff.

Thanks.

Lori Basiewicz

The second one is grammatically correctly. The trick to remembering this is to mentally finish the phrase at the end of the sentence.

Mary is older than him [is] -- Nope.
Mary is older than he [is] -- Yeppers.

rtilryarms

one exeption:

Mary is older than himself..

If she has only been a guy for a couple of years..
