Hello all,

I am seeking a beta reader for long walks on the beach...oh, wait no...sorry. Wrong ad.

Anyhoo... I am seeking a beta reader for historical fiction novel entitled "The Enemy Within." It is complete at 110,000 words. The novel is set in the U.S. and England in the 1860s.

Julienne Dalton was born to privilege on a prestigious horse farm in Kentucky. She is sixteen when the Civil War begins and her life quickly deterioates when her father is murdered, her home burned, and she is assaulted by a soldier. Determined to not be a victim again, she joins a Confederate espionage ring. Masquerading as Julian Landry, a male spy, she experiences freedom and success, while fostering the burning desire to wreak her revenge on the Union.

When Julienne is betrayed by one of her own, she is escorted to trial by Alexander Caulfield, a former detective for the Metropolitan Police of London. Thrown together by circumstance, they fall in love. When Alex hatches a scheme to save Julienne from the hangman's noose, she fears that he is sacrificing himself for her. She flees the morning following their wedding, hoping to save Alex and preserve her own heart.

Bound for Europe, Julienne is waylaid in England when she finds out that she is carrying Alex's child. No longer able to travel, Julienne settles uneasily in a small English village. She poses as a widow and quickly becomes the local curiosity. She attracts the attention of Lord Richard Ashby, a dissolute aristocrat. They form an unlikely friendship that soon blossoms into love, at least for Lord Richard. Convinced that Alex can only hate her now, Julienne accepts Lord Richard's proposal and seeks an anullment of her marriage.

Unbeknowst to her, Alex searches for her for months, before returning to England at his father's request. While attending a house party, they unexpectedly encounter each other. Alex is furious but when he discovers that he has a child, the two must reconcile their feelings for each other. When Lord Richard discovers that Julienne has rekindled her relationship with her husband, he is determined to keep them apart which results in disasterous consequences for them all.

If anyone is interested in becoming my reader, you will find my thanks quite effusive. Just PM me or respond here. Thanks in advance.

Beta reader, maybe

Hello,

I've written and published two historical novels, but mine were in the Great Depression and Korean War eras. I don't know if you're looking for someone who is more familiar with the Civil War era, or if you're not that particular.

Since my novels were published I've been writing adventure and thrillers, so my writing style has changed as a matter of necessity. In these genres the emphasis is on fast moving action as opposed to historical detail. Again, it's your call to make.

If you'd like to see a sample of my writing, I'd be glad to shoot it out to you. If you want me to take a look at your work, let me know.

In any event, best of luck,

jeff
