Hello! I think the thread title explains my sentiments best! I can't wait to read everyone's literature, as well as hear of their personal writing experiences. For anyone interested, here is an abreviation of mine:

I've been writing fiction my entire life, and always enjoyed it. I love the sciences, geography, and history but I'm a dismal academic and an even poorer artist. Some element of my character craved the creative process, though, so I naturally turned toward the pen. I wrote my first (very silly) little book in Kindergarten. I continued writing up through highschool, but not long after I graduated I somehow lost my way.

I stopped writing almost entirely in college, possibly because the subjects upon which I wanted to write were far ahead of my personal knowledge and intellect. Whenever I sat down at the computer, it felt like a chore. I watched many of my "writer friends" and it made me want to write even less. They ached for noteriety, and when they failed to be published or known, they suffered from depression. I didn't want to follow that path. I decided that if I was going to write, I would be driven by the joy of the creative process and sense of personal achievement, not driven by youthful egotism or a pipedream of fame. So I went 7 years without sculpting so much as a page.

However, a few months ago I was talking with my wife about paleontology and geology when I developed a premise for a novel. I stayed awake the entire night thinking. I sat down in the morning (thank goodness a Sunday), started typing, and I've been sucked into it ever since. I haven't felt so purposeful in my entire life. I was working around 60 hours a week and was desperate to find more time to write. I quit one of my jobs so I could search for a more degree pertinent profession (in biology), but my wife suggested I just sit down and take that time to write.

It feels great. I'm always itching to get back to writing and revising. When I'm too tired to keep writing, I'll be bouncing over to these forums to get some more ideas!

Greetings and welcome to the watercooler :welcome:

Take a wander around the various forums, there's lots to see and lots to learn, and even some fun threads too. Come along and pop on over to the Traditional Irish Pub (at the top of the Newbie forum) and say hi, there's plenty of friendly faces that you can chat with and lots of banter. There's also the Question of the Day threads at the top of the Newbie forum where you can answer random questions.

Don't forget to read the newbie guide, and if you want to know what all the buttons mean check out this thread.
