Seems everywhere you look, tyranny and an a wanton distain for constitutional rights are everywhere. Welcome to the new era of totalitarianism in the name of security.

Well, perhaps she's following the same logic that says the Second Amendment doesn't apply to modern weaponry. After all, there was no Internet, no blogs when the Constitution was written. You still have free speech, you just have to use a moveable lead press to express it.

I wonder how come they didn't think of this when radio and television were created? It would have made things so much easier for TPTB.

Can't bloggers just declare themselves freelance journalists and get around it that way? Is there some particular qualification needed to call yourself a journalist? I know this |-| much about the Constitution, so it's just a suggestion.

Um...considering this was the result of a security leak at the TSA and the directive was confidential and not supposed to be released to the public, are you really finding something to complain about? Seriously?

If she was confiscating random laptops from bloggers that disagree with her, that's one thing. But trying to track down the source of leaked confidential information is entirely different. What if that leaked directive had been military in nature? Or discussed the travel plans of the President?

Come on now. Sure--there are plenty of reasons to get pissed off at the government. But when it comes to protecting the internal security of the government--especially when dealing with a situation as the result of a failed terrorist attempt--I don't find this either disturbing or earth-shattering.

I think it's more important to find the little troll who decided to stir things up a bit. What a ridiculous and stupid things to do.

Couldn't Nixon have argued that same point, Celina, and discovered who Deep Throat was?

As noted here, the Christmas Terrorist showed us many things.

1) The government is as incompetent at performing basic security as it is at providing anything else of value.

2) In light of 1), Al Qaeda and its allies are not terribly interested in launching attacks on US soil. It would not, apparently, be terribly difficult to do so if they actually had much desire.

3) Considering the attacks seen overseas, Islamic militants are mostly interested in attacking soldiers in Muslim areas and civilians who are living in occupied areas.

4) It is difficult to get someone who is both competent and smart to sign up for a suicide bombing mission.
to that I'll add

5) When government screws up, civilians get the shaft.

Have they confiscated all the equipment of the TSA employees who could have leaked that information? Have they all been supoenaed? For that matter, who's the last government clown who lost their job over a screwup? Brownie for Katrina?

She needs to light a fire under her own employees and figure out what happened here, not threaten civilians who exposed the TSA's incompetence in hiring people who could keep their mouths shut.

Ahem... apparently there was something to complain about, and even the TSA finally agreed.

TSA Withdraws Subpoenas Against Bloggers
In the wake of public outcry against the Transportation Security Administration for serving civil subpoenas on two bloggers, the government agency has canceled the legal action and apologized for the strong-arm tactics agents used.

Why hasn't Napolitano been consigned to the unemployment line already? If the TSA can fail as it has under her guidance, then I think she isn't qualified for the position. It's bad enough we have to have the TSA. Must we have a TSA run by incompetent people?

Let's see, we have the Peter Principle, reinforced by political payoff appointments, abetted by the revolving door between government and the corporations they supposedly control. Mix in some CFR / Tri-Lat cronyism.

It's a miracle if we end up with anybody in charge who's not incompetent.

Inside sources say Obama's going to headhunt at least one person for the Detroit situation, and Napoleonette is high on that list. Give her another week to line up a job with someone looking to curry favor with the Obama's, and expect her to resign before month's end.
