Thread: Fortunately...unfortunately

    Fortunately...unfortunately

    Here's a game I play with my drama students. Someone starts a story and, depending if things are going well or badly, ends the sentence with "fortunately" or "unfortunately." The next person repeats "fortunately" or "unfortunately" and adds an appropriate thought.

    Example:

    1st person: I decided to walk across the street to the coffee shop, unfortunately...

    2nd person: Unfortunately, I got hit by a bus. Fortunately...

    3rd person: Fortunately, I got thrown into the back of a pickup truck hauling mattressess. Unfortunately...

    just as I was about to pass out, I noticed a monkey in an adjacent stall, who was typing a novel (he was that one monkey we always heard about that would eventually type a novel if you sat a million monkeys in front of a typewriter), and he was kind enough to write me into the scene he was working on, and voilą, there I was, smack-dab in the middle of beautiful downtown Honolulu.     I had my dirty laundry with me and that used up enough soap to weaken the bubble. Also got my clothes nice and clean. Unfortunately,
