In the Castle, of course.
Congratulations, Casey. I couldn't be more pleased and happy for you. You will make an excellent poet laureate. :D

Thanks for that, Stew, but OMG that discussion was FIVE PAGES long with lots of disagreement about the British Prime Minister, and I'm not sure there were ever a real consensus! Was there?

I've been around the Cooler for a while now, but very new to the poetry forum, so still feeling my way here. Shall I await casey's actions to discern how he is exercising his role and that will illuminate it for me? :D

The role of PL is unique to each Poet Laureate.

Typically, a Poet Laureate will be in that role for 3 months. In that time, the PL may want to work toward a goal of increasing participation in the poetry forum, raise awareness of poetry in the AW community, write a poem for an event or occasion, head a group project, and lead by example in the ways of the poetry forum, encouraging critique participation, or fostering community and service.

Some examples include KTC's raising awareness thread in office party, while I was poet laureate I did a body of work critique and had a recommended reading I updated each day in my signature line, JST5150 did a group poetry project, and asked members to pledge time for real life community literacy service. Several poet laureates have written poems to mark occasions.

It's a way to highlight poetry at AW, and to build community through leadership.

Ultimately, each poet laureate chooses how they would like to do these things. Some have been rather quiet in the role, while others have been very active. it's entirely up to the PL.

the only one thing the PL has to do is answer the Q&A. We all get the same set of questions. :)

Casey will have them soon.

Thanks all! I am really honored for the selection - As a writer I have learned so much from the poets on this site, not only their crits of my work, but their crits of others and simply just being able to read what is posted and the quality that we see each day.

I hope to fill the big shoes the past PL have left - my focus will be on keeping an active community, promoting each to get out there and send poems for publication, and picking back up some of the traditions lost such as poem of the week, reviewing existing forms, experimentation, etc -

Thanks all again, really appreciate the pick!

I'm not a poetry writer, more of a reader actually, but congratulations Casey, good job.
