Record created on 13-Oct-1999.

Googling finds them listed on a number of agent search sites as either not accepting submissions, not accepting unsolicited queries, or inactive.

Sorry, not much help.

On co-agent Tony Outhwaite's AQ page, contact is now c/o Midpoint Trade Books (a distributor). And not accepting unsolicited queries.

JCA Literary (Cushman)

Anyone know anything about this agency?

http://www.agentquery.com/agent.aspx?agentid=640

http://www.agentquery.com/agent.aspx?agentid=639

They rep my genre, but I can't find much on them. It looks like Jeff Gerecke worked there a long time before going out on his own and doing pretty well: http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/members/jeffg/

It's done some pretty decent stuff in the past, it seems, but there's been a pretty big regime change it seems, and I'm wondering about some of the recent agents.

They also have a blog of sorts here: http://www.jcabooks.com/ with a lot of book trailers, but I'm a little unsure what it all means. I guess their lack of a presence here (unless they do have one and I just can't find it because the search won't let me do a three letter search) is worrying me a little.

So, legit? Making sales? Making YA sales? Anyone?

Both AQ profiles are gone and JCA Books hasn't been updated since '09. (Just for the record, jcalit.com morphed into JCA Books in '07-'08.)

There was a bankruptcy filing notice for the JCA agency in the NYTimes a couple years ago---not a particular shock, since my agent at this agency essentially went AWOL a year before that. Stay clear if it ever comes back.

The bankruptcy thing was a disgruntled ex-employee trying to get back for perceived slights. Nothing came of it. The agency keeps a lower profile than many (e.g., no more website), but they are by no means out of business nor, unless someone here knows something I don't, in any way suspect.

If anyone here does not something I don't, please advise.

"Low-profile literary agent" is always cause for some concern. At minimum, it calls for some extra rounds of research to make sure they're still making sales.
