I thought so, too. They've only just switched to accepting email. It makes them a possibility for me, because I live on the other side of the world.

    Question E-mail submitting

A new agency that has a lot of authors is nice. My only question is a minor one. Are the submitting criteria for e-mail the same as for hard copy ? 1st 50 pages etc. would be nice. I just need a bit more structure to be comfortable.

Hmm I just figured that the submissions criteria applied to both. It doesn't say for postal submissions only.

I've had personal dealings with Jenny Brown regarding a bogus agent. I was a victim of the Christopher Hill saga a few years ago and when I became suspicious of Hill I approached Jenny to ask if she'd heard of him as they were both based in Scotland. She was very helpful and gave me loads of advice, she even read my manuscript when the whole thing fell on it's backside and we were all left wondering what on earth had happened.

I can't comment on how good an agent she is, but what I can say is she didn't need to advise me or read my manuscript. I think she's a pretty decent person.

If you're not sure about the submission criteria, you could always mail them for info.

From what I can see, the information is detailed on their site. An email should contain a synopsis and 50 pages as ONE document attached. The email body should be the covering letter. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Millie -- I'm so sorry you got tied in with a bogus agent. The same thing happened to me but Victoria Strauss put me right and there's a whole thread on them at AW.

Yeah, there's a whole thread about Hill on here (and loads of other comments all over the internet) - I contributed to it alot when the brown stuff hit the fan. Thanks for your kinds words. Victoria gave up an awful lot of her time to researching what really went on with Hill and I really appreciated her constant support of those of us who knew nothing about the industry.

Bob McDevitt [formly of Hachette Scotland] has joined Jenny Brown's new office located in Corbridge, Northumberland.

    Also:

McDevitt is based in the agency's new office in Corbridge, Northumberland, along with fiction and sports writing specialist Mark Stanton, as the agency develops "new opportunities in the north of England".
One of my top agents, so this had made me very happy.

Just queried Mark Stanton with a mystery/thriller, got a reply in a couple of hours that he would review the submission (synopsis and first 50 pages) and if I don't hear from them in three weeks to assume its a pass.

If anyone's considering submitting YA or Children's fiction here, be aware that Lucy Jukes' bio has been "I'm currently closed to submissions. Please check back in a month or two." for about two years.

I checked back often when I was agent-hunting as they seemed like an excellent agency. It seems like they're not looking for any children's/YA submissions, but if you're determined I think the best chance of getting Lucy's attention is to attend an event where there's a JBA agent present. They do a lot of talks, workshops etc around the UK.
