Mostly historicals. I want to write something on the Revolutionary War, but seem not to be able to find a whole lot info about life before the war.

Hmmm. I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help but I know it's out there. Digging around in the laws that the government were passing at that time would give you and idea of what people were most interested in, life-style improvements at least.

Thanks Syn. I'll have to go digging in the taxes in order to figure out what a normal colonial family was like.

I have that John Adams book that was made into an HBO show. It offers a lot of insight about how the family survived and lived at that time. They weren't exactly rich, by any means.

I knew that, most of the people were either merchants or farmers. Now days you might of called them middle class.

The backbone of the country. Probably quite a few indentured servants, working off their passage too, I would think.

I have no idea how that many people could stand to live on top of each other like that but yes, intense physical labor was necessary just to live through the winter. You had to wear many hats and know how to render, manufacture and repair so many things. In the winter, anyone who had some sort of sewing, leather-work or carpentry talent turned their evenings into productive work for barter. A hard life, no leisure time. I'm so glad I live now.

I suppose if you didn't know any better, life was life. But it was hard, hard work. I would think that people had to develop a hardness to cope with the illness, injuries and infant mortality rates back then too. When they worked they worked hard and when they played they made have played even harder to make up for it.

In some ways life today is the same, you have to have many hats to order to servive.
