Y'all may already know about this one, but it was new for me.

http://www.digitalbookindex.com/

It has over 100,000 digitized old books, searchable by keyword, author, title and subject. I just found a very informative one about the treatment of typhoid fever in the late 19th century. It gave the the exact info I needed for my WIP.

Happy searching!

Has anyone else registered with this site? Web of Trust claims it's spammy: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.digitalbookindex.org. You have to register your details before you can search. There is tick box to opt out of the mailing list, so I'm wondering if ticking the box actually works.

There are tons of other general sites where you don't need to register:

http://www.bibliomania.com/4/-/frameset.html
http://www.forgottenbooks.org/index.php
http://librivox.org/

http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm

Claims to be More Comprehensive

Has anyone else registered with this site? Web of Trust claims it's spammy: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.digitalbookindex.org. You have to register your details before you can search. There is tick box to opt out of the mailing list, so I'm wondering if ticking the box actually works.

There are tons of other general sites where you don't need to register:

Digital Books claims to be more comprehensive than all of these. Considering the complete response to the first query I gave them, a rather obscure one, I find the claim plausible.

I too hesitated to give them my real email, but I did check the box. We will soon see if it works.
