Oingo Boingo, who went by their original name The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo when they appeared on the Gong Show, was the band that gave us the brilliant Danny Elfman, who has scored dozens of movies including most of Tim Burton's flicks, Spiderman, etc. Starts about 1 minute in, look for the redheaded guy wearing a rocket ship.

(Really, Charlie? The Gong Show? Wow - that's news... amazing!)

Danny Elfman also wrote the theme song for The Simpsons. His handiwork is everywhere, though you may not know it -- much like Lalo Schifrin.

Oh, and Oingo Boingo are the band performing at Rodney Dangerfield's party in Back to School.

Back to work:

Michael Jackson Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney singing a crappy song about racial harmony.

Oh?

Not actual horrible duets, then?
I'm only having a bad dream now, right? Right? Nothing like that ever really happened, did it?

Of course not...

I remember seeing that episode when it originally aired. Yes, I admit it, I regularly watched the Gong Show. Anyway, there's no way I could have pointed to anyone on that stage and said, "this person is going to go on to become one of the most accomplished composers of our era." It truly is amazing to see where Elfman started out. Bizarre as that video is, in hindsight you can see where the quirkiness in Elfman's scores came from.

Okay, more duos....
