Anyone come across this group before?

http://www.forwardpress.co.uk/

They run an annual poetry 'contest'. Free to enter and apparently EVERYONE gets accepted.

They even go chasing after poets who failed to include their names and/or addresses on their entries:

I've been told by someone who submitted to the Poetry Rivals comp (yeah, she didn't know any better at the time!) that the anthology costs 20 pounds.

The more time I spend on their web site, the more it reminds me of poetry.com.

There's even an 'opportunity' to self-publish your book with Forward Press:

http://www.forwardpress.co.uk/07_publish_yourself/publish_yourself_01.htm

with no way of figuring out how much they charge unless you actually go through their entire ordering process.

If you want to order any of the books published by Forward Press, you have to PHONE them:

http://www.forwardpress.co.uk/09_shop/main_pages/online_shopping.htm

And they have a long list of 'imprints':

All info above posted as a public service announcement. :Sun:

"Journalist Louise Bolotin, 49, wrote Epilepsy - The Essential Guide For Need2know Books, a Forward Press imprint. It was published in May 2009 and Louise, of Manchester, received a £500 advance against future royalties. By the end of 2010 her book had sold £11,237 worth of copies.
But a few weeks ago she received a letter from Bonacia saying the book had not sold as well as expected and she owed £160 from the advance.

She said: 'My experience with them has been so miserable. I would never, ever work with them again.'"

This is why pre-pack liquidation sales are so completely evil. It allows the same directors and companies to shut up shop, ditch the debts and move on with a new company doing exactly the same thing. It used to be the case that the Department of Trade and Industry could ban people from being directors and this is a case where IMO they should be stepping in. Certainly I'd hope that trading standards and the police get involved in checking out some of the claims in that article.

I sent off a submission to forward press many months ago. Today I got a letter of acceptance from forward poetry, the catch being I need to buy five copies of the anthology I'd be published in. The letterhead says 'New Fiction' and the address is a Peterborough one. Looks like they're trading under another name.

Need2Know books are now giving ebooks away for free without the permission or knowledge of their authors, of which I am one. Not very happy and I'm now taking legal advice. Wish I had never got involved with them.
