I searched the index and Preditors and Editors but I did not see any information on this company.

Anyone have experience?

From the skeptical perspective:

- Unprofessional-looking covers.
- Really poor Amazon sales rankings; in some cases, the books have no rankings at all.
- Some of their "recent releases" are as non-recent as 2000.
- Apparently, no reviews from industry publications.

I am guessing that this is a publisher that mainly sells online and via its own website, with little or no bookstore presence.

Thanks everyone.

The article linked by JDM tells a little.

They seem to operate under the radar but my gut is that they are vanity press oriented even though they are not an overr-the-counter service. It kind of looks like thier target authors are well to do and have upper class professions.

But a real publishing house foots the advertising bill right?

I also note that the authors typically design thier own covers. That might be the reason for the low quality.

I wonder if the authors had to invest in more than just advertising?

Thanks again,

M

This publisher is 20 minutes from my hometown. They contacted me a couple of days ago about my book (because it is a local story)and I haven't called them back, after reading this and seeing their site, I'm not too sure if I am.

Briarwood

I met the owner of Briarwood five years ago at a bookfest and assumed that Briarwood was the imprint for her own self-published books. Her books were not well-done--covers came off the two I have. She hasn't been active in local literary activities for last couple of years that I know of.

The address given on the Briarwood site is 15 miles from me. Mainly a residential area. Briarwood Publishing is listed in the white pages of the 2004 phone book but not in the yellow pages under publishers. According to another listing in the same 2004 phone book, the address belongs to O.L. Turner & Sons.

That's about all I know.

On the other hand, calling them up or meeting with them might provide interesting information. Think of it a research. You might be able to use it in a story.:)

Site is still up, but hasn't been updated since 2005.

Site still moribund. Put out a spate of Kindle editions '13/'14, but nothing since.
