Hi Jill-

I see that you are a writer in Pepper Pike and I
thought you might want to post a profile on
daylo.com. We've worked really hard to develop
the website, and we believe it's a great way for
people to promote their writing skills.

Daylo is completely free and you can actually
check out the profiles of other writers by
following this link:

http://writing.daylo.com

I hope you find daylo helpful and good luck with
your writing.

-Aaron

I'm assuming this is an email you received and you're asking about the company? YADS (Yet Another Display Site). Worthless.

Finally back home.
I got one too. I haven't done any research or anything, no time. But before I toss this into the trash bin, does participating in this type of thing hurt a writer's career? Is there any chance that somebody could come across the site and possibly help a writer? I trust everyone here and will do as you advise but I'd like a little more facts before I decide. Are there any sites out there that are created by writers to help writers? Has anyone had a bad or good experience with a site like this? I didn't respond to the email when I got it because I wanted to check here first.

Not really. Most editors are inundated with submissions and don't need to go looking for more. It's probably not going to count against you, but it's not going to be somewhere that anyone looks. In the case of fiction, you're either submitting a manuscript, or you've been recommended by your publisher/agent for a particular job, and thus have no need for them.

For non-fiction, it's a crapshoot. When I need to find someone, I don't hit general writers sites to find someone who can write about fonts, I hit specialist ones for the subject I'm looking for, and break out the emails to people who seem to know what they're doing, and how to write. I'm not going to hire you just because you say you're a ghostwriter, or a technical editor or somesuch, and you're hardly going to stick out of such a grabby, attention-seeking crowd even if you do have the right credentials.

Thanks Richard. That tells me it wouldn't hurt but wouldn't help and would be a waste of my time. In the trash it goes.

Seems like the yellow pages for writers

I browsed their web site and was not really impressed enough to waste the time. It lloked like a self-filling yellow pages for writers and whatever else. I feel that my time could be better spent elsewhere.

google search . . .i would say. and then if you have ever signed up with some of the writer's pages that sell names--i've gotten a few emails like that too.

I've not signed up with any writer's pages that I know of (I'm not really sure what a writer's page is actually) One of the few places I can think of where he might have gotten my email addy and said "ah, a writer" would have been for him to go to my profile here. I have a number of gmail accounts and the gmail addy I use here is not the same one I use on the few other boards to which I am subscribed and that cater to writers.

I don't blame AW, I posted my email publicly here so I take what comes with it...I'm just saying if he went to profiles to find addresses that won't endear me to his offerings.

Well, it survived at least into '07, but it's gone now.
