That's a good one. But I was under the impression you didn't like books over 300 pages? Great, great book though.
The Abhorsen Trilogy, beginning with Sabriel. Also Ender's Game and its sequels. Great action and adventure in all of these, but much more, especially for children with an interest in understanding more about the ways of the world.
