I was at the grocery store and had never seen Turmeric root before (neither had the clerk but that's a longer story), so I got some and want to plant it. Any do's or don'ts?

I think you grow turmeric from the rhizome the same way as ginger, i.e. just put a piece of it in a pot with some dirt, keep it moist & wait. There are a lot of links to instructions on Google. This one recommends a container at least 12" across and 12" deep because turmeric plants get big.

The local farmer's market opens today. It's gazpacho time!

I've learned that the secret to making REALLY GOOD gazpacho, besides using really good produce, is to not be stingy with the olive oil. Put in enough good oil and the soup becomes velvety smooth heaven in a glass!

Today is national waffle iron day. Being too wimpy to eat an actual waffle iron, we had waffles.

And sticky, sticky, maple syrup.

Even sticky maple syrup couldn't make a waffle iron taste good. I think you made the right choice. ;)

Garden tomatoes, in the food processor with basil, oregano and garlic. Added to leftover rice, fresh spinach, thinly sliced carrots, and shrimp. Microwaved, then sprinkled parmesan cheese on top. Pretty good for quick slop. :)

I do too. Though I could probably use more iron in my diet. ;-)

Waffles.

Somebody on FB started a thread about breakfasts that a picture of waffles got posted. It reminded me that I had a waffle iron I hadn't used in years. So, I made waffles.

I did something different, though. As I've often said in my videos, keep the egg whites because they have a lot of uses. This time, I whipped up the egg whites until they had stiff peaks. Then, I added that to the batter and folded it in until combined well. I think it made for fluffier waffles.

The batter was way more than I needed so I used the rest of it and made a stack of waffles to freeze for later.

The first big green salad from the garden: Butterhead lettuce, arugula, mizuna, escarole, mache, 2 kinds of mustard and mustard spinach, with a raspberry lime vinaigrette dressing and some ground pepper.

Just bought the supplies for my first attempt at a buttermilk pasta sauce, to see if I like it better than the heavy cream pasta sauce I made a few weeks ago.

Cheeseburgers with mismatched buns (two bun tops on one burger, two bun bottoms on another) and lemonade. The harder question is what to have for dessert: chocolate pudding or strawberry Jell-O?

A "lasagna" of old bread slices, leftover spaghetti sauce, the last of the ricotta beaten with an egg, with bread crumbs and fresh mozza leftover from last week's pita pizzas.

It's only a loaf pan full because we're using up leftovers.
