Last night, I think I tried hearts of palm for my first time in a salad. Not bad. Also had roasted stuffed acorn squash (needed a wee but more salt) w/roasted veggies and a chocolate mousse.

Tonight? Chipotle. ;)

Oh, I've got an acorn squash sitting in my kitchen. I may have that tonight. Not sure what you stuff yours with, but I use raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar.

Some finely-diced apples are good thrown into the mix, too. Also chopped pecans.

I didn't make the squash this time -- my dinner theatre troupe actually got fed at the country club we were performing at.

But this squash seemed to have both rice & wild rice, pine nuts, orzo, dried cranberries, poppy seeds (I think), & green lentils (ditto).

I just realised how sad this is:
We are having stewing beef made into a curry. The cat just ate "wild salmon Florentine with garden greens in a delicate sauce".

How is it possible that we got the cats who refuse to eat beef (which we grow), chicken (which we grow), or eggs (which we grow), but are addicted to expensive fish? I think I need to invest in a surf rod or something.

It's your own fault for giving them canned food. I've had cats for 30 years. They all get kibble (good quality kibble, but kibble nonetheless).

Oh, I know. It's my own fault for spoiling them.

According to the feline health scientists I've talked to, it's a lose-lose situation. If you feed them only wet food, their teeth suffer. If you feed them only dry food, their kidneys get munted. I feed both....and, clearly, I spend waaaaaay too much on both!

I will now bow out before I admit how much I spend on dog food....for a GREAT DANE, no less....

(adding: the cats are now 13+ years old, and the Dane is nearly 7, so I'm not killing them....but crikey it does get expensive.)

Let's go back to human food: Northern Indian beef curry (lots of cumin and yoghurt), Southern Indian veg curry (lots of mustard seed and coconut cream). I feel pretty optimistic about the former and not too terribly optimistic about the latter, since I'm feeding guests. And rice, but that won't save a bad curry.

However, vanilla sponge cake with strawberry jam, milk chocolate ganache, and dark chocolate icing just might prove my lifesaver. :D

Salmon with green beans. Maybe some roast potatoes, if I'm feeling particularly motivated.

The freezer broke over the weekend and the fridge is starting to go. So...the menu is whatever is in there needs to get eaten. Unfortunately, there are lots of frozen veggies. Peas and green beans, here we come.... ;(

Green bean casserole!

We add a lot of frozen veggies to soup and shepherd's pie.

Good luck!
