    Careful what you wish for.

    From 'EFFIN ALBERT:
I put my pjs on and go to Mom’s room. She’s sitting up in bed. She poured herself another cup of whiskey and she’s sucking it out that straw.
She sees me and says, “Shut the door.”
    I shut the door.
She says, “C’mere. I need to talk to you,” so I come over. She pats the bed so I climb up. I don’t like watching her drink that stuff so I pretend I’m interested in what’s on her dresser. There’s a picture of me and Albert on there and her brush and a pack of Newport cigarettes and Asshole’s stupid bong.
She says, “What a fuckfest, Mike. Jesus.”

Why Twitter friends are better than real life friends

Twitter friends are a wonder of social media, especially if you’re an introverted writer looking for community. Here’s why they’re so great.
W(not)IP 1, fantasy: 200,000 words in the wrong order, awaiting major overhaul
RAIN ON DRAGON SCALES, high fantasy: draft 5 complete at 160,662 words, revision underway
I blog bad advice and random silliness at www.ASAkkalon.com

Have any of you wondered how old the Earth is? Or how scientists try to find an answer for that question? It's the subject of my latest blog entry wherein I talk about one of the pionners of radiometric dating.

I'm working my way through all of the books which have won both the Hugo and the Nebula (in no particular order) and just started in on Ancillary Justice. Premature comments and mind-wandering here.

I really like all three of Leckie's books, and the audio book of Ancillary Mercy is also quite lovely (haven't listened to Ancillary Justice of Ancillary Sword so have no idea what they're like as audio books).

In this new entry, I write about a young black woman who developed the first effective IV treatment for leprosy. And guess what, a man tried to take credit for it when she died!
