Hi, all. I'm John, I'm a technical writer for umpty-ump years, finally getting serious about the fiction thing.

In non-writing, I have a wife and 2.0 kids. I should have free time, being on half-days, but it doesn't seem to happen. :) (I had a brain tumour a couple of years ago, and the surgery to repair it has had certain side effects--hence the half-days.)

Hope to be around and to learn from y'all--and, occasionally, to help.

Welcome. It's amazing how time goes. They doubt the existence of time warps but I'm sure I'm not getting my full 24 hours a day! Best of luck with your writing.

Thank you, all of you.

Yeah, I'm mostly over the brain tumour (I think--though they assure me at the Acoustic Neuroma Society that some of the changes will take years to sink in). I can talk about my experience with that, but I'm not an expert by any means.

Thank you all, again.

Cancer blows huh?

I had my own brush with that years ago. Good to hear that you are recovering and welcome from a fellow Canadian

Tumours blow, anyway. I was fortunate that the brain tumour wasn't cancer, it was a different growth in the head--technically an acoustic neuroma or acoustic schwanoma.

'Course, we didn't know it wasn't cancer for the first week, we just knew it was a big, big tumour. ("Big" here would be a technical term: over 3 cm in diameter; mine was about 5 cm. There's no place in there for anything to go--drop a golf ball into a bowl full of water and see what happens.) On the plus side, I didn't have to wait long for the surgery, because they were worried I'd die without it.

I am so glad I went to the doctor about those headaches!

With the grace of a good surgical team, I have only a few side effects, and have since taken up alpine skiing. :)

Welcome, jhmcmullen! I'm relieved to hear how well you're doing with having a tumor removed! Good luck with your writing and see you 'round the boards.
