Sad news indeed. I always enjoyed hearing 'the rest of the story.'

I recall his TV commentaries as part of the one-hour local evening news in the early 1970's! I dunno how old he was then, but he didn't look as young as most of the local newscasters.

I heard very little of him in recent years, but still he's a voice who will be missed.

That is so sad. We used to have to drive, like, 60 miles to the nearest grocery store, and I remember listening to Paul Harvey's radio show every afternoon during the drive. Our local station played it around noonish. I just loved his stories, his deep voice, the long pauses in his delivery, that whistling "s" sound, and that classic line! "And now, the rest of the story."

Yeah. He made quite an impression on me as a kid. Meh. Now I'm sad...

I had to listen to his radio show for a few months because of a captain I worked for insisted on hearing it.

I grew to enjoy it. He did have talent, and his 'rest of the story' was pretty cool most of the time. If you listen to the one about Tiger Woods, you'll get it.

He made an impact, and he had a good run. Rest in peace, Paul.

My dad, RIP, was his biggest fan, and I can still remember as a kid in Chicago riding in the car when his voice came on the radio and being admonished if I even breathed to loud while he was talking. I didn't mind though because I always found him him interesting even as a child, one of a kind who will never be duplicated.

The Rest of the Story

Ah, that would explain why I don't know him. Very small area, very few radio stations, mostly out of SLC. And I never listen to the radio, we use CD's because we can't get much reception out here and it's mostly country music stations.

It's interesting to put your writer's hat on as you listen to these. He has a unique voice, from a writing standpoint as well as speaking.

Paul Harvey - Letter from God (YouTube) This says something to everyone, regardless of how, or even if, you define God.

A sample episode of The Rest of the Story, (YouTube) normally heard on the radio. They normally aired in two parts, with ads in between, either clever marketing or gross commercialism, depending on your viewpoint. This one has the classic twist at the end that justified the series' name.

I don't know how many of these are available as video.

Oh, I am sad beyond belief. I adored Paul Harvey. :(

He had such a distinctive voice and style. That man could really tell a story.

Great storyteller. Even though the The Rest of the Story was completely lax on factual accuracy, that added to the folksy charm of it (unfortunately many people still quote those stories for truth).

R.I.P. Mr. Harvey.
