necrophilia and bestiality would be hard to sell in adult as well, except to a very specific niche market publisher, I'd think.
So....yeah, those probably can't be in most YA.

if you've got a REALLY good reason for it and it's not just for shock value, then yes it can be in there. most agents would probably reject immediately, but if it's a good, well-written story and the necrophilia, bestiality, whatever isn't just there to be there, then it can eventually find a home.

Oh quite - I wasn't suggesting (ahem) speciality porn... Shady, in her post immediately below yours, described the sort of incident that I had in mind. In fact that one has been used in a film, made as long ago as 1965, called The Party's Over. (It had a lot of censorship problems as you might expect and is pretty obscure nowadays.)
As for bestiality, well you could reflect the fact that it's a well-known pastime in very deprived rural areas, or has been in the past.
But as you say, either subject in a YA novel, however justified by the storyline, would be a difficult one to get past agents, let alone teachers and librarians.
So there probably are limits, in the more out-there forms of sexuality. But not as many as a lot of people seem to think. Which is the whole purpose of this thread.

See, I wouldn't really consider having sex with a girl who died in the middle or before necrophilia because he didn't know she was going to die.

yeah, sophie, but it was sketchy and would provoke a lot of the same responses censorship-wise as hardcore necro, i'm thinking. and it was available at borders and stuff.
