What genres would you attempt (Moved from novels to the roundtable)

I would love to attempt a High Fantasy of publishable quality. It's always seemed like such a daunting task, but I've just about made the decision - when I start it is another matter though.

I would love to try out fantasy... I'm doing my best to work in the mystery genre for now.

I would love to have a shot at science fiction. I'm a big fan of Star Trek and Star Wars. I would love to invent my own aliens and worlds.

I'm attempting SF now, I would try to write erotica also.

I'm a thriller writer, and I wouldn't mind writing thrillers with certain elements of science fiction, or an erotic thriller, or a thriller with elements from westerns. Or anything that's thriller-related, like a mystery or cop story.

Comedy, drama, historical drama/romance, thriller and low-grade porn.

Mystery/Thriller

There's an idea for a true crime book I had years back...would love to write it and dedicate it to my dad.

There isn't a single genre I'd absolutely rule out although SFF and Western are unlikely.

This true crime book is the only NF idea I've ever had.

Anything that isn't fantasy.

I try, and then all of a sudden all this weird stuff turns up...

I would love to write mystery, horror, and romance one day.

PnR, SF, thriller, erotica, litfic. Actually, the only ones I have no attraction to at all (right now, anyway) are Westerns, horror, and mysteries. Anything else is possible.


Whether I could actually come up with a viable idea in any of these and pull it off remains to be seen, of course. So far everything I write turns itself into traditional fantasy or urban fantasy....

I always tell myself I'm going to someday write that big, stupid fantasy epic with magic and crap but since I generally hate reading fantasy I don't know if I could really bring myself to write it. Funny, since it was one of my main hobbies as a kid.

Right now, I write historical. I'm most likely to go back to fantasy, which is what I first wrote when I started writing. Not high fantasy, but fantasty that's more grounded in our world. I might even be tempted to one day--gasp--write about our contemporary, average world, though I find our world boring to write and read about.

I'd like to write some kind of...I don't know how to describe it. Cozy drama set at a university or something. Just the kind of story and setting that make you feel comfortable and warm inside. Not comedy, not depressing or tragic, not boring, just kind of slice-of-life. I have no clue why since I've never read anything like this and it's not really my cup of tea, but I just think of a big university building and a beautiful campus in autumn and the students having their friendships and such and...*sigh.* Or maybe some kind of cozy holiday story. Something cozy. Sounds like it would make a nice book. Maybe it's the life I wish I'd had?

I can't imagine pulling it off though since it has no fantasy or anything in it. What the heck would the plot even be? :/

Anything but genre romance, chick lit, epic fantasy or western.

I absolutely intend to try a thriller, and hopefully before too long.

I also have a couple of historical ideas I would like to try out.

Horror. There's nothing I like to read more than a well-set horror scene.

I think it would be fun to write historical, which I haven't tried since I was about 12.

Business thriller or historical. I think they would be fun, but the amount of research I would need to do for either of these genres freaks me out.

I'd love to do some romance writing, I think it'd be fun and I'd enjoy it. Really, though, at this point I might just attempt such I'm just getting started anyway.

I'd also get a kick out of writing Horror, Mystery, SF or a Screenplay.
