Dreams are allowed here, but that's where Hope plays a trick on us and a major reason why Hope sucks in the Pit.

Hope allows us to dream and think we have a chance at happiness, and then evil Reality kicks in and Hope laughs, "Haha, fooled you again, sucker"

Luckily, I have no hope at the moment.

...*sits in dark corner knotting doom shackles*
*rocks back and forth*...

Just got a flaming R for an anthology I thought I
possibly might get into -- the overt horror
elements weren't strong enough. Regular people
say my stuff is horror ("Ew!") and horror people
say my stuff isn't ("Ew!").

I am genre-less.

Thanks you, Krampus. Can I have another?

Too this and not enough that? That's me too.

It's one of the many Marks of Doom.

Madder, I can relate.

"The Many Marks of Doom." Has a nice ring to it.

Oops, I forgot to give Madder her hugs. That butterfly took you right off the cliff, huh?

Thank you, Red, Kellion, Cricket. You make this old cynic smile.

I made up my own genre, thinking I was being clever. I write mythical realism, I'd boast. I'll be heralded as the chick who started the genre. Man, she's so cool, they'd say. Recently I'm realizing, um, no one buys the stuff.

"The many marks of doom." <-- Maybe we should all get a matching tattoo, like the cast of Lord of the Rings did. A Krampus whip? A cute little butterfly with and evil glint in its eye?

*hands out doom shackles*

I'm thinking of Krampus with butterfly wings. And I'd describe my genre as magical skepticism.

WCP, that's the power of Hope, the power of delusion. That's why it was in Pandora's jar. It was the greatest of all evil.

I feel ya' on the too this, not enough that.

And on the idea of "do they know I'm here?" stuck, Cricket, I'm probably going to shutdown querying for the remainder of the year and start up again the first week of January. I still have 34 queries outstanding (none have timed-out yet) so who knows if any of them will contact me before the new year.

(((Madder)))

Sorry, I've got nothing witty to add. I have to leave tomorrow for another business trip, from which I won't get home Monday night until 1 a.m., and have to be back at work Tuesday morning by 7:30 a.m. for another meeting. Plus, it's supposed to be freezing rain here for my flight down, and I have a million things to go before I leave. So my brain's fried already.

Hmm, KT, I thought that was a jellyfish, not an alien ship. Aliens make more sense.

If only the aliens could beam up Ink and deliver her to her destination -- how's that for a segue?

Sigh. I need to plot out my next novel, and I'm having some indecision paralysis. I love my SNIs too much to contemplate them falling into the blackhole of unpublished obscurity.

Yikes, Ink. That's a hell of a schedule.

Kellion, at least you have SNI's. Wait, does that sound too hopeful?

I've got nothing but querying on my brain. A sad state of affairs, indeed.

Well, Cricket, they're not really S or N, but they are ideas. And believe me, these ideas are ones that no one is clamoring to steal. Right now I'm thinking that most marketable one is the MG story about a 1940s industrial accident.

Is there any wonder that I don't have a book contract?

(((ink))) Be safe. And warm. Maybe you can take a day off later in the week to rest up?

Kel, the 1940's industrial accident sounds intriguing actually.

Kellion I'm with madder, have you ever read Upr1s1ng by M@rg@ret H@dd1x? The plot was one that wasn't exactly 'commercial' but that didn't stop it from being a damn good book! I know it's YA and you do MG but still...perhaps it CAN be done (yeah yeah I know M H is an established rock-star author and we are as yet languishing but there's that pesky bastard hope again)

Sorry to be the bearer of good news, but I agree, Kellion, this sounds really interesting to me.

Because Madder, Soul, and I may have just brought you hope, go ahead. 20 lashes for each.

*OW* No, I don't have hope, because as Soul points out (sort of) no one will want my children's book about the industrial accident until I'm already famous and successful due to my commercial breakout. But I need a commercial breakout first!

:scared:ACK! Is that how what I said came across Kellion? Shit sorry! I didn't mean no one would want to see what you've got until you're a commercial success....aw hell another 10 lashes for soul and her big mouth! I was just trying to pre-fend off the 'but MH is a huge author and we are stuck way down here slurping maggotinis!"

Oh, that's not what you said, but it's true! I was at a bookstore today and it was very hard to picture the kind of stories I write there.
